Severe Manufacturing Defect – Zero Free bore & Heavy Reamer Chatter

by Aaron, from KS, United States Written on September 21, 2026
I purchased this 20-inch Wilson Combat Super Sniper barrel expecting match-grade performance, but the chamber throat transition was short-reamed from the factory and is completely out of spec. This is a 1-8" twist barrel, which I specifically purchased to stabilize heavy 69gr to 73gr match projectiles at long range. However, standard mid-to-heavy precision match bullets cannot reach functional seating depth because the barrel lacks functional free bore clearance .I meticulously mapped the chamber geometry using a Hornady OAL tool and digital calipers across multiple projectile types. To establish land contact with a Hornady 73gr ELD-M, the bullet must be submerged 0.3855 inches inside the case body, forcing the case mouth to sit completely over the sloped ogive nose and destroying neck tension. A Sierra 69gr SMK soft-touches at a maximum COAL of only 2.3675", drowning the tail 0.089" past the neck-shoulder junction into the powder column. Internal inspection with a borescope confirmed the root cause: severe reamer chatter marks and a heavy, raised steel ridge right at the throat leade transition. This manufacturing defect physically shaves and gouges the copper bullet shanks upon chambering, destabilizing lighter projectiles and causing severe over-pressure safety hazards with heavy factory match ammunition Wilson Combat’s quality control completely failed on this batch. If you are a precision handloader looking to utilize the 1-8" twist for heavy match bullets, avoid this b...

Incorrect Mil spec charging handle

by PH, Verified Owner from OR, United States Written on October 6, 2025
Item arrived with mil spec charging handle not even Wilson Combat branded. I have reached out twice to sales and have yet to hear back. Requesting they refund the amount required to purchase the correct part or expedite the missing part that is advertised as part of this upper. Wilson Combat does not make this upper with a mil spec charging handle so it was clearly swapped out. Everything else appears of good and correct quality, yet to be used howevever. Will update review once issue resolved. Posting this because a previous buyer posted about this exact issue as well, albeit after I purchased it and was awaiting arrival. Yet optic planet has yet to address this.

Regular Charging Handle

by CJ, Verified Owner from NJ, United States Written on October 3, 2025
Very nice upper. Only issue is that the picture is misleading. It shows an ambidextrous charging handle, but when it arrived, it only had a basic mil-spec charging handle.
