cobalt187's Review of XLR Tactical AR Buttstock

So this was the final choice for my most recent build. And I really do like its ability and customization. However there are a few things you should know. First this is NOT like your standard everyday buffer tube. It will not fit your brand new magpul armors wrench because the tube diameter is thicker than that particular wrench will allow. However, it will fit an open end castle nut type wrench. I used a Geissele Super 42, Braided Wire Buffer & Spring Combo for the new tube and it works perfectly.

The Cheek rest is really my favorite thing about this stock. Just to have that same site picture every time is a plus for me. The butt stock pad is....well.... and actual pad of sorts. It has some give and is comfortable to shoulder, with an every so slight stickyness to it, that allows it to mold sweetly well into the shoulder pocket and stay there. Just know however, that if you are passing your rifle around like a hand towel at the range, everyone will not have that customized feel and you would have so you will have to break out your allen wrenches in order to fit like a glove for every shooter. So have already placed stealthy marks on the cheek-rest and stock/tube for your defaults just so it is easy to put it back where you want it should the need arise.

Also note that you will need to allow distance between the charging handle and the cheek-rest. If you have the cheek rest raised even slightly you will need to ensure that the pulling back and release of the charging handle is taken into account. If your cheek-rest is to far forward on the tube; when raised, you will be unable to pull the charging handle all the way back if the cheek-rest fixed in a raised position

Should one ever need to actually buttstroke with this stock I'm at not at all certain if it would be up to the task of doing so without snapping the buffer tube off at the threads even though the tube itself is indeed thicker. I'd love to confirm that but not with my money :D

Overall, I love the look and feel of this very well thought out stock but it is a bit more weighty than your cheapo plastic tapco-ish type stock offerings. It is however robust enough to be durable in hard conditions so far.

Lastly I used a POF USA Ambidextrous QD Endplate for this buffer tube and it works out perfectly. Any after market end plate should work with this tube.
