ECU pirate 08's Review of Yukon NVRS Tactical 2.5 x 50 Generation 1 Night Vision Rifle Scope

I have to say after reading so many mixed reviews of Gen 1 scopes I was just about to not buy this scope. I researched to the best of my limits to find something that I could use for a 300 blk out rifle especially for night coyote hunts since I have that current problem and I believe it is hurting my deer hunting . I read so many complaints about these rifle scopes and that many people dId not like Gen 1. Well let me be honest. I have seen through many Gen 2 and gen 3 night vision monocular and scopes having LEO friends with such tactical gear. That being said I was sure I was going to be disappointed by a Gen one product. But I did not have the $$$$ to pay 2,000-3,000 $ for a scope just to coyote hunt/varmint hunt. I do not need a 200+ yard rifle scope either. 50-100 is plenty well. The yukon 2.5x50 tactical comes with the night vision mode and with any ambient light - moon etc I am able to see 30-50 yards clearly with ambient light and the internal ir illuminator I can see 50-80 yards clearly and I by clear ..I mean I could tell u if your holding 3 or 5 finders up etc. I purchased a 805nm pulsar ir illuminator to assist and with this set up I have approx $680 in both . And last night with almost no moon and very cloud skies basically as dark as it gets around here I could see 100-150 yards across this field into the tree line. With no issues! I would take a shot up to 100 shooting suppressed 300blk out as that is about as far as it has effectively accurate hits. This scope is perfect for me and meets/surpasses all expectations I had for a Gen 1. The key is having the eye piece focus as well as the internal ring focus at the end of the scope. This along with the pulsar illuminator gives me ccrystal clear picture and a nice reticle up to 100+ yards effectively. I wouldn't hesitate for one second to shoot athe a varmint or hog /deer size game. Obviously not condoning this as it is illegal but just to say a racoon coyote hog size game etc is very easily identified with clarity in this scope. If u need over 150 yards this isn't for u as the field of vision darkens passed 150 and 150 yrd visual field requires a treeline to reflect the illuminator light . But if ur tree line is 150 or less you are golden. 100yrds in u can see clearly in all lights with the illuminators. The difference is the brightness of the picture and maybe a little resolution between the Gen 1 ,2 or 3. Also at farther distance the later gens allow easier ranging and better depth perception But certainly not worth the 2,000+ price difference. If u need to shoot 150yrds plus then go for the others gens. But for the average Joe with 10-120 yards to shoot this is ideal and price effective . At least it was for me. Hopefully this review will help you as I could have used it when buying myself. I usually do not bother with writing these but I was impressed with this particular scope. I have seen some Gen 1 scopes half as clear without the focusing features I would spring to get this scope specifically esp after using it. My brother was disheartened when he first looked through this scope then I messed with the focus eye ring and the other focus ring and it became clear I had purchased an awesome new toy for $680 . For my purposes this is perfect and I wouldn't wast the $$ for the difference. If u need over 120-150 yrds then u might need to look into Gen 2 or 3. Good luck!. Hope this is useful
Pros:
  • clear up to 100 yards with pulsar illuminator, focusing features remote controlled. easy to mount and zero . holds zero well clear reticle w adjustable brightness , price $$$$$
Cons:
  • if u want 150yrd plus this isnt your scope. but for the money this is a great product
