As you would expect from any Zeiss product, the optical clarity of this spotting scope is very good. I use it at the rifle range for spotting my hits at 300 yards. I can easily see the holes even with some heat mirage going on. I had a similar vortex spotting scope, and this one is much better. My only gripe for taking away one star is that I wish it had a secondary fine focus wheel like the vortex does, which is a feature I really like.

There was no way to edit my review but if OpticsPlanet can add to the bottom I'd appreciate it.. Zeiss did return my email. Turns out their published weight does NOT include either of the caps, nor the built in plate where you add a tripod adapter. The spotter was still heavy even when removing these, although not as significant. Upgrading my review from 1-2 stars, but leaving it negative as they refused to work directly with the purchaser, asking to go through the original retailer directly.

I purchased this spotter for an ultralight DIY sheep hunting setup after plotting out several of the higher end spotters via objective diameter per weight. Zeiss claims to be 60.0 oz which would be the highest obj / wt ratio of its class. When I put it on the scale, it actually weighed 62.4 oz. While not a significant difference, the advertised weight put it ahead of the Swarovski 80HD, however the actual weight was below the Swarovski. I sent a response to Zeiss, and am still waiting to hear back; hopefully they can find a way to make it right as I would not have purchased this product over the Swaro if they advertised truthfully. Will adjust the review accordingly if they do.

The clarity of the images produced using this scope is truly astounding. Very clear and so much light comes through the scope that it is usable under all conditions that you would expect to see clearly. That’s not faint praise; TLDR is that it works like you expect and hope. Great spotting scope.
Pros:
- Clarity
- Construction
- Range
Best Used for:
- shooting
- Bird watching
- Surveillance

I studied all the high end scopes before making my choice, the Zeiss Conquest Gavia 85. It’s a bit cheaper than some comparable scopes from other manufacturers. The HD glass is sharp and clear. Almost no chromatic aberration, even at high magnification. It does lose a little light at 60x but the 85mm objective lens helps tremendously. I use mine for birding and have been very happy. I great close up looks with an easy focus wheel. Strongly recommend this scope!
Pros:
- Price
- Size
- glass
- clarirty
- Focus adjustment
Cons:
- Light loss at high magnification

The amazing quality and performance doesn't reflect in the price. I've looked through many spotters that cost substantially more than the Zeiss Gavia. Other products just can't compete with the low light and clarity you get with the Gavia. This is the best spotting scope for the money.

After 2 seasons chalk full of big game hunts, I can say with certainty that this spotter is the one I want in my pack. I have found that the size of the eyepiece and eye relief overall is much better than what i was used to with spotting scopes. It is frustrating to struggle to hold your head perfectly with zero movement just to see through other scopes, whereas the Gavia is easy to approach and get eyes on a far off target or habitat quickly, and maintain the visual while doing other things like locking down your tripod etc. The glass quality is stellar as expected with Zeiss, edge to edge clarity. I have had 2 friends up and sell their (popular competitor) spotting scopes after side by side comparisons in the field. cheaper glass can have a yellowish or slightly murky appearance to it that can be hard to even notice until you look through something superior.
Would recommend the Zeiss stay on case for this product, helps make it even more durable and protects that beast of an 85mm objective lens.
