Ted's Review of Zeiss Terra ED 10x42mm Outdoor Binocular
The Terra ED is a great piece of optical equipment, particularly at the given price point of $350-450. True, this model is assembled in China, but it is done so under strict supervision by Zeiss and to their exacting standards. The prism and glass are all of German manufacture and have the multi-layer Zeiss coating. Focus is rapid and affords fast acquisition of your visual target. Considering the price, the Zeiss reputation for quality and not to mention the Zeiss warranty, the purchase was a slam dunk for me. I've had my Terra ED 10x42 now for 8 months, no problems and high satisfaction. Many dealers have trouble keeping these in stock. I don't think it is truly necessary at this point in time to spend $1000+ to get a quality binocular. This said, there are certainly other fine units out there as well; I still love my Steiners, but I paid a lot more than $350 for them and really can't say the optical quality is much better. Field &Stream voted these the best binocular for 2013. Get a pair of these in your hand prior to buying and I'm sure you will agree.
