Originally introduced in 1906, 35 Remington ammo still has plenty of fans. It's a medium-range cartridge that is good for hunting elk, deer, and even black bears as long as the shot is taken no more than 200 yards away. That's quite a distance for 35 Rem ammo, though, so it really excels as a "woods and brush" gun for quick shots at ranges of 100 yards or less. A 200-grain bullet is the most common load, pushing a muzzle velocity of about 2,000 fps (feet per second) and muzzle energy right around 1,900 ft-lb (foot-pounds). Since this ammo is most commonly used in lever-action rifles like those from Marlin or Henry, 35 Remington bullets usually have a jacketed lead round nose (LRN) for safe loading into tube magazines. For over 100 years, hunters have trusted the .35 Remington round, and the biggest fans even say it's superior to the .30-30!
