Of course, if you're into AR builds, you know how versatile they can be. If you want a real "thumper", check out a 450 Bushmaster Upper. Although the straight-walled cartridge wasn't specifically designed to meet the hunting requirements of the numerous states that don't allow bottleneck cartridges, that's certainly what's kept the round so popular. A 450 Bushmaster AR has plenty of target and tactical applications, too.image

Is a Bushmaster 450 worth it?

If you're in a state that doesn't allow traditional bottlenecked cartridges for deer hunting, it's absolutely worth it. With up to double the range than, say, a 12ga slug that hunters in those states have been limited to until recently, that's already a plus. Add that to the capacity in an AR of about 9 rounds, as opposed to the 3 to 5 of a slug gun, and you have another plus. It will even serve as a self-defense gun in grizzly country, if you've ever been there then you know that's definitely a big plus. Serious knockdown power at 50 to 200+ yards means that a 450 Bushmaster AR has a lot of tactical potentials, too.

Can a 450 Bushmaster shoot 5.56?

No, but a 450 Bushmaster upper combined with a multi-cal. AR lower allows you to convert your existing 5.56 into a 450 Bushmaster AR. They use entirely different Ammunition, and the bullets themselves are vastly different. The 5.56mm (0.223 in.) is less than half the size of the 450 BM's 11.48mm (0.452 in.) projectile. The cartridges themselves are not compatible in any way, and the tapered lugs on the bolt won't work interchangeably with one designed for a 5.56 NATO. However, the good news is that a 5.56mm NATO can fire .223 Remington, so there's that.

Does a 450 Bushmaster fit an AR 15?

Yes, you can convert your AR 15 by swapping out to a 450 Bushmaster complete upper. The versatility enjoyed by the AR platform, when combined with a multi-cal. AR lower means that you can quickly and easily swap out your upper for a wide variety of calibers. Keep in mind that if you add a 450 Bushmaster AR upper, you'll need to get new caliber-specific Magazines, or buy parts to modify your follower. There are several bolt-action rifles on the market that are chambered for 450 Bushmaster, but a lot of hunters and shooters prefer the 450 Bushmaster AR because they can swap for different calibers, as we mentioned, and because they have faster follow-up shots.

Is a 450 Bushmaster good for hog hunting?

Yes, the 450 Bushmaster is a great caliber for hog hunting! It has proven itself with one-shot kills ever since it came out on the commercial market. There are several manufacturers making hog-specific ammo that really up the game. Many hog hunters weren't convinced that the other popular AR calibers like 5.56mm/2.23 Rem. or 300 Blackout were very ideal for feral pigs. Workable, certainly, but not their first choices. When the 450BM came along, a lot of them took more interest in getting a 450 Bushmaster AR upper to turn their coyote killer into what is affectionately known as the "Thumper" for its hard-hitting heavy bullets.
