What is the Forend of a Shotgun?
The forend of a shotgun is the portion that runs along the bottom of the barrel between the action and the muzzle. In simple terms, the forend is the part of the gun that your supporting hand uses to hold up the shotgun when your dominant hand pulls the trigger.

What Are the Two Main Types of Shotgun Forends?
There are two basic types of shotgun forends: fixed and moveable. Moveable forends are found on pump-action shotguns, where you pull back on the forend to work the action and eject the expended shell, then push forward to chamber the next shotshell and close the action.
Fixed shotgun forends are found on break-action, semi-automatic, and lever-action shotguns. A fixed shotgun forend is attached to the gun and doesn’t move as you operate the firearm.
Another way to look at it is to say the two types are straight (or regular) forends and pistol grip. A shotgun pistol grip on the forend extends down and your support hand would hold it the same way your dominant hand holds the grip of any gun.
