Sight Mount Gunsights give you the most versatility for your sights without having to get your firearm tapped and modified for mounting plates or impeding performance. Sight Mount Red Dot Sights & Accessories are an ingenious way to combine working rear sights with an optic mounting platform. Red Dot Sight Mounts are a standard 2-dot rear sight that work with your front post without an optic, so there's no need to remove the mounting plate if you remove your handgun red dot or reflex sight. They're not exclusive to handguns, either. Sight Mount Red Dot Sight Accessories will work on any compatible dovetail rear sight like those on the Ruger American rifles.![]()
A 1911 red dot mount can be a tricky thing. There are red dot scope mount options for a 1911 that can be pretty awkward and cumbersome like those that mount to the grip and extend over the slide. Others require having the frame drilled and tapped, making rear sights inoperable once the plate's on. Sight Mounts allow 1911s with G.I. sights to have a dovetail red dot mount that also doubles as rear sights.
Having a handgun red dot sight really pays off for most shooters. With some practice, they're much faster with target acquisition than traditional iron sights, since there's only one point of focus instead of three (rear sights, front sights, and target). In a defensive situation where speed is key, especially under stressful conditions, a red dot on a pistol can be a real game-changer.
Some, but not all, red dots are designed as a dovetail red dot. However, once it's mounted the entire sight needs to come off in order to revert back to iron sights or swap out the optic. That's where Sight Mounts Gunsights come in, as mentioned above, all you have to do is remove the optic from the Mil Spec rail and you're back to ironsights.
