Throw the junk wood grips away. This grip is much wider on the bottom, and feels great. The top is composite but who cares. You don't grip the top of the rifle and the barrel goes through the bottom piece. Regarding the upper or lower being loose...

but mine had play in it,The top feels cheap so I took it off and put on
a M.I handguard. I would save a little more money
and upgrade to a Midwest IND and don't look back
