- Always start by unloading the rifle
- Remove the magazine and clear the chamber; make sure that you keep ammunition aside.
- Remove the dust cover, carrier spring, and bolt carrier assembly.
- Remove the buttstock screws.
- Insert a flat-bladed screwdriver into the large hole at the rear trunion's top, and pry the buttstock backward out of the receiver.
- Feel along the inside edges to feel any burrs
- Use a file to remove any burrs.
- Insert the buttstock.
- Once the buttstock is seated in the receiver, you can drill the pilot holes for the screws.
