Per Angstadt, it is 1.375. However, the last 3/4" is bored to 1.405" to allow for suppressor mounting. Many pistol suppressors are 1.375" OD which works perfectly with the right barrel length.

The handguard is indeed light weight with the smallest thinnest barrel nut I have ever seen. No timing of the gas tube is required and the thin profile still perfectly fit around the tall proprietary gas block of my v seven barrel.
