This magazine catch works well, not rocket science, and looks different. I wanted to customize my build with a set of lower parts that were different than mil-spec so I chose this one. The looks are good but the overall size of the part is smaller than mil-spec. I installed it, and after my bolt catch was in I decided it did not look right, so I took it all off and started fresh with a mil-spec catch (PIA to remove the bolt catch and risk of marring my receiver, which I did). The mils-spec part looks are just ok but the part fills the entire cavity leaving no gaps, whereas the BAD one is a bit recessed and smaller. Function of both parts was adequate and after debating looks went back to the Battle Arms one. So keep this in mind. Also the lower was an Aero Precision.
The guard does it's job (it's just a trigger guard) and looks different, not sure if the little ramp helps that much for magazine insertion, maybe under strenuous circumstances or speed reloading? but looks cool. The side where the threaded pin goes is hard to install (unlike other similar construction trigger guards) as the fit is very tight and the pin just spins until you press very hard and then starts threading. recommend to thread off the receiver, unfortunately for me I had already pressed in the roll pin on the other end.
These pins have the right looks and in principle are a solution to a couple of problems. The kit comes with the detent pins but not with the springs, so you still need those. The detent pins are one sided, have a shoulder that helps position and retain within the springs which is a good idea. The bad idea in my opinion is that they are made out of steel whereas the standard MIL SPECs are brass. not sure is a good idea to have steel against steel on these items, I am sure in the long run its going to be ok unless you take your gun apart thousands of times. The other good idea is that you can assemble them easily without additional tools and you can take them out if needed. The track for the detent pins is on the sharp side, so there is more friction than on standard pins. I ended up swapping the detent pins for brass ones and adding some grease on the tracks or slots and even then is a bit hard to push them out to take the upper out/down.
