PLRMT Quality/Value

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on November 19, 2009
As stated in ealrier review, design requires higher front mount than offered. 50 threads per inch causes only every other graduation to line up. Windage marks are out of alignment with base, forcing zero marks to be offset and limiting travel in one direction. Many graduations are shallow and barely visible. Machine marks and sharp edges. Dovetail mounts are incorrectly sized, not 3/8". Had to have remachined. Screw slots off-centered. Absolute piece of junk. LW customer service condenscending and dismissive. LW should be embarrassed to sell this Chinese-made junk. Precision - what a joke. Out of money to have base mounted. LW Malcom Std. Long Scope Mount Set M634MT also poorly made and marks out of alignment. Scope had to be returned for repairs due to endcaps scratching lens. (Told not to tighten caps so much.) Eventually purchased another vendors mounts.
Pros: None
Cons: Poorly made, soft steel, graduations don't line up properly.

Leatherwood Precision Long Range Mount with Fine Elevation/Windage Control PLRMT

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on March 18, 2009
Neither Leatherwood/HiLux, OpticsPlanet, or any other vendor tells you in any of the product descriptions that the mount is NOT usable for distances 100 yards or less. For a number of my purposes this makes the sight mount unusable. According to the Technical Services at Leatherwood/HiLux the only way to make the mount usable for shorter distances is to have a gunsmith make a custom, front scope mount shim that will raise the front mount about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch. As sold, you are unable to even bore-sight the scope to the rifle. I spent $200.00 for the mount and another $90.00 to have the rifle drilled and tapped to only discover I can not use the scope on the rifle for the shorter distances.
