Most Helpful Positive Review Satisfactory for most uses
This case will serve my intended use well. However, if you believe the compass or signal 'mirror' are of highest quality, don't be fooled. You won't use them for those purposes. Pros: Price was good. Cons: Compass virtually useless.

Excellent quality

I bought a couple of these MTM boxes, the larger size & this one. They work fantastic, I also bought a couple of the pelican cases which are pieces of horse manure. I use mine when riding my ATV cross country. They are more for the dust than anything but they can hold they're own with water too. When packed on my ATV, they are bounced all over the place, the large one is usually filled with ammo/magazines & the smaller one has my phone/wallet & keys. Every single time when I get back to my truck the boxes are sealed just the way I left them when they got packed. No dust, no water, and I abuse these things when they are on the back of my ATV.

MTM Survivor Dry Box

by JetVet, from TX, United States Written on January 25, 2016
I purchased the MTM Survivor Dry Boxes to build personal survival kits for my nephews. The size was good as I wanted to keep it compact enough to be taken on a hunt or hike. To that end, it is well suited. The compass and reflector cheapens the product. The reflector strip can be improved by peeling it back to an edge and pressing it down to reattach without the air bubbles. The installed compass is a novelty, I added a handheld compass and a signal mirror.
Other items included are high Db signal whistles, matches in waterproof containers, wet fire, space blanket, Morse code sheet, para cord, Light sticks, marbles (place those in the corner of the space blanket to make tie-off point). A little room left over for whatever the user thinks best. Yes, there are a host of items useful in a survival situation. I focused on what might not be carried and kept it minimalistic; orientation, signaling, heat, shelter.
Pros:
  • Size
Cons:
  • None
