Most Helpful Positive Review Pro Ears Pro Tac Mag Gold
Although the Pro Ears Pro Tac Mag Gold electronic hearing protector came very highly rated, I was disappointed. The unit came in an unmarked cardboard box with a note that environmental considerations precluded typical retail packaging. My initial impression was that I may have received a counterf...

Good sound reduction but too many cons

by WM173, Verified Owner from ME, United States Written on July 16, 2024
Comfortable. Big and bulky. Hard to install batteries. Says 4 batteries included, but only two delivered. Function is fine for handgun shooting. Cannot get a cheek weld with rifle.
Pros:
  • Good sound reduction
Cons:
  • Bulky
  • Poor battery compartment design
  • Not returnable (ugh)

Pro Ears Pro

by Hisedness, from PA, United States Written on November 22, 2019
The work amazingly well. I give them 5 stars for functionality, fit and comfort. Butt..... only if you use these while firing a hand gun. If you try to use these while using a rifle, I guarantee they will make it nearly impossible to use the sights. they are seriously bulky. I actually took them off and went back to my foam ear plugs. They work really well, conversations are no problem. sound attenuation while firing is impressive. I just wish they weren’t so damned HUGE....
Pros:
  • they do what they claim. and very well at that
Cons:
  • Very very bul
  • Very, very bulky

Works great with hearing aids.

by Plate Shooter, from CT, United States Written on February 3, 2017
I wear hearing aids and the ear cups are large enough that they don't interfere while wearing the hearing aids. I wore them last Saturday while teaching a handgun safety class, and really like the very quick response and recovery time when a gun is fired.

Cons:

Great Muffs

by Andrew, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on February 11, 2016
I was skeptical at first, mainly price but these are a great product. I have used these indoors and out with no problems...some reviewers stated they had problems with the headband breaking and I can see where that might be an issue...I just made sure to treat them carefully while putting them on.... Very comfortable for 4 - 5 hour sessions....everything that they advertised was true.... I could hear all range commands while shooting and other people talking at a distance...
Pros:
  • Fits well, great construction
  • noise reduction
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • shooting

Sorry I didn't buy them sooner.. Beats the heck out of regular ear plugs and ear muffs. You can hear your normal surroundings but all loud noises are cancelled .. works great.. search for the best price because the price varies greatly

Pro tac mag gold hearing protectors

by Thud, from MI, United States Written on September 19, 2015
Very comfortable, excellent noise suppression, good microphones. Too bulky for a cheek weld on long guns & too heavy for all day match wear. They would be perfect for someone shooting extremely old firearms.

Pro Ears Gold is the Go To hearing protection

by Timothy, from CA, United States Written on January 23, 2015
I have been a competitive for over 23 years, shooting indoors and out with long guns and handguns in all kinds of weather. I have tried just about all of the different offerings of electronic hearing protection and Pro Ears Gold is the Gold Standard. My first set of Pro Ears lasted 12 years of hard use and with new ear pads are like again and I still use them as loaners so others can see what quality hearing protection feels like. My current Pro Ears Gold are coming up on 4 years and still feel like new. The ear pads are still soft and comfortable even when worn all day. These hearing protection allow you to easily communicate with those around you without being overpowered by the surrounding gunfire. The noise level reduction is very good even when shooting indoors. I would highly recommend these to anyone needing quality hearing protection.

Pro Tac Mag Gold NRR 30

by DONOVAN GALICINAO, Verified Owner from NV, United States Written on October 10, 2014
Excellent hearing protection! I like how the sound compression works without cutting everything out. It was a lot bigger than I expected - Almost 50% larger than Peltor Bull's Eye 7. The size isn't noticeable when you're standing still, but I did notice it rubbing against my collar once you start turning your head.
Pros:
  • Best hearing protection
Cons:
  • Big

Top of the line ear protection

by Legacy Reviewer, Written on January 25, 2014
After taking a few new people to shoot, I decided to upgrade to electronic earmuffs. At a crowded range, these provided much better protection than the slim passive earmuffs and foam plugs I had been wearing. With the electronics turned on, I could hear my friend, and even people in other ports with ease. Despite their size, the Pro Tac Golds are comfortable enough to wear for a few hours.

Each side has one battery, one circuit board, and one on/off switch. The switches have a solid click, but can still be accidentally turned on or left on there is no automatic shutoff I am aware of. Two circuits mean twice as many parts to break, but also redundancy in case one board does (which I prefer).

If you shoot at an indoors range, especially one that allows rifles, and want electronic protection, I think these provide a big advantage over other electronic models with a lower noise reduction rating. Easily twice the size of passive muffs and much more expensive, but you get what you pay for and I'm glad I bought them. Made in the USA.
Pros: Great hearing protection with redundant electronics
Cons: Bulky
Would recommend: Yes
