According to Aero Precision; Any rail will work with the standard upper, however only the M4E1 rail will fit in the M4E1 upper (or other BAR style Handguard). To use the Midwest Industries handguard you would need the standard version of this receiver.

The m4e1 threaded upper will work with the midwest industries and most other handguards. It has mil-spec threads for attachment of barrel nut. The m4e1 enhanced upper is different and uses a proprietary barrel attachment system and handguard, claimed better.

yes I'm putting Midwest Industries 13" Combat Rail with titainium barrel nut on my new M4E1 Upper & Lower. Guy on Redit showed me picture exact same setup and tabs didn't interfere with the M4E1s billet looking upper
