Are these grips much bigger than the standard taurus 856 defender? I hope so.

This grip will be slightly longer than the original. From the top of the grip, this measures 3-5/8" to the back an 3-7/8" to the front.

The DS-124 won't fit the Taurus 65 because it's considered a medium frame and the DS-124 is designed for small frame revolvers.

Unfortunately, I am unable to tell you fitment based on a serial number, but this is the firearms this laser will fit.
Fits Taurus Small Frame Revolvers (85*, 94, 605, 650, 651, 731, 850, 851, 856, 905, 941). Does not fit Taurus Small Frame Revolvers with Polymer Frame). *Does NOT fit Taurus 85 models manufactured after 2014.

I have a Taurus that's maybe 20 years old. Snub nose 38 special,5 shot revolver. The only markings are Brazil, and 38 special. Will this grip work.Thx

Unfortunately, I am unable to tell you fitment based on year and caliber. There should be markings for the serial number and model on the frame to help you identify it. If it does not have the model number, I would suggest contacting Taurus with the serial number and they may be able to identify the model based off the serial.
These are the firearms this laser will fit:

Fits Smith & Wesson Airlight, Airweight, Bodyguard (except polymer-framed models), Chief’s Special, Centennial, Ladysmith, Models 36, 37, 38, 49, 60, 63, 317, 331, 332, 337, 340, 342, 351, 360, 442, 637, 638, 640, 642, 649, 651 and 940. Round butt only.

As seen above, this should fit the Smith & Wesson Model 60.
