You just need to have a picatinny rail to mount too. You can technically mount it to a Desert Tech MDR, but if you cannot attach a picatinny rail to the bottom of the forend, you may need to mount it to the top rail like most users do.
That really depends on the specific units. Steiner offers mutliple different configurations of laser devices from just a single visible laser to units with visible/IR laser and visible/IR lights and everything in between. This Steiner product has both a green and an IR laser. The green laser is visible to the human eye, the IR laser will not be visible unless used with any night vision device.
