If the Green FireDot is lit by fiber optics, why does this scope need a battery?

The battery is used for the brightness levels and the motion sensor.

How big is the Firedot in scope in terms of Mils or MOA?

Per Leupold, depending on the intensity setting the firedot could be as small as .3Mil.

If you want to save money by not buying name-brand Leupold, you can get a pair of Butler Creek covers for about $15. You just have to measure the scope ends so you can pick the right ones.
