The Liberty Ammunition Animal Instinct .300 AAC Blackout 96 grain Hollow Point Centerfire Rifle Ammunition is designed for hunting and would not be the most ideal home defense round due to the potential for over penetration.

How do they measure muzzle velocity? Is it out of a 16” barrel? 18? Longer? Will it work well as a personal protection round with a 5” barrel?

The manufacturer does not state the barrel length the Liberty Ammunition Animal Instinct .300 Blackout ammunition was tested with. I recommend contacting Liberty Ammunition for that information.

Is this a solid core for deer or a fragmenting round for varmint?

This is a round that partially fragments on impact. The base of the round continues through to hit vitals.
