This is not specifically designed for the shotgun platform. The manufacturer does not provide a recoil/shock rating so you would need to contact the manufacturer directly to make sure it can withstand the recoil.
This can used for search and rescue as well as being weapon-mountable. It may be a bit small to function as a clip on device in front of a traditional optic, but can be mounted on its own, or on top of another optic for target locating.
Short answer, yes. With the optical zoom it is better of at 30+ feet, but it is possible. I would not recommend using this solely as a sight/reticle for the fact 5-50 feet is such a small range and needs constant adjustment.
Thermal technology is a bit more delicate than a traditional scope by its very nature, so this most likely would not hold up to the SCAR 17S.
Depending on how hot the object is in relation to the surrounding air or objects/ buildings will determine the strength of the glow. I was picking up people about 800 feet to a thousand feet away from me in the dark of night where the air temperature and surrounding temperature was around 65 degrees. During the day it was a little bit more difficult to pick up people and I had to use the white hot feature to really designate targets as everything was pretty much impacted by the sun's rays this would definitely work much better in the winter.
There really are no mounts for helmet brackets for this thing that I know of. You could potentially hire somebody to or design yourself a mount and 3d print it to hook into a standard nvg bracket.or something. And if you're going that far to helmet mount it then you want to worry about the LCD illuminating your face for other nvg users. Maybe makie an eyeball Hood to suction up against your eye better. This thing has a brightness setting all the way down to 20% Which reduces the effectiveness of the display but it won't illuminate your eye as much and blind you
