This is the original PST, not the PST II. The PST is no longer listed on the Vortex website, having been replaced by the PST II.

It depends on your skills, it's easily good to 400 yards.

Good for you, bad for coyotes.

Is this good to 1000 yards? Has anyone taken this out to that range?

Expert Answer
A
Answered by Ethan, Gear Expert, from IL, United States, on November 08, 2023

The distance at which you can see with any particular optic is based on many factors including the terrain, weather, the size of what you are trying to see, your eyes, and the time of day. Trying to see a steel silhouette at 1,000 yards will be very difficult with a 4x scope. If you are looking to see and engage targets at that distance, you should look for higher magnification and a larger objective lens (56mm). Although you would also need to consider other factors such as the quality of the glass, the capability of your rifle and ammo, canted bases or mounts etc. Email us at Techsales@opticsplanet.com for further assistance.

Q

What is the min scope ring height required for this model?

Expert Answer
A
Answered by Ethan, Gear Expert, from IL, United States, on December 19, 2022

The scope ring height will depend on the specific rifle you intend to mount the scope to. For AR platform rifles, a high or extra high ring set/mount would be recommended in order to achieve the ideal centerline height, However, bolt guns will typically be more comfortable to shoot with the scope as low to the receiver as possible. Since this scope only has a 24mm lens, low height rings would be ideal for most bolt guns. Email us at Techsales@opticsplanet.com if you have any more questions.

First focal plane will change the reticles size depending on magnification and second focal plane will make the reticle stay consistently the same size through magnification.
