Underwhelmed
I bought this backpack expecting a "tactical" quality of construction that I could take on international trips. It is a fine pack...but I have a Swiss Army pack that cost half as much and has twice the quality.
Pros: Nice shoulder straping system, hidden section, lots of tie downs.
Cons: Zippers are cheap and function poorly compared to other packs I've used.,
Covrt 18 backpack
This is a great ackpack, Los of storage. Also ccw access, lay out is great. I use it as a get home bag. It does everything I wanted it to do. Comfortable, water resistant, easy access to items inside and lots of room. Well made.
Pros:
- Lots of storage and well made!
- Lots of storage and well made
Cons:
- needs more hook and loop in main compartment

Used for PRS
So I purchased this pack to store all my gear for matches, and not only does it store all my gear I use in each match plus the 200+ rounds I bring I've also been able to make room for a Vortex Viper spotting scope and the pro series tripod. This bag is perfect and I also feel confident leaving it in my truck when I go into a store due to it not appearing to be "tacti-cool" looking.
Pros:
- rugged
- inconspicuous
- Roomy compartments
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- PRS

Takes a Ballistic Panel of the Right Size.
I had one before in green so it would not look military but my wife objected saying it looked military. This time I picked Ice because black looks "SWAT" or military. The Ice looks great, reflects light and I hope easy to clean. The bag is tough and comfortable to wear. On the side are two water bottle pockets which military type packs do not. The main area takes my ballistic panel and the pocket on tops takes my POLICE patch like in the video. The shoulder straps are heavily padded and the back pad has a strip down the center for air circulation. There is the CCW area for my pistol and the top has a place for my retired badge. For travel it will do everything I want and need. However, the CCW area has a problem. The velcro is in the center of the CCW area and when I put my pistol holster there, the bag sags in the middle. I feel the area needs the velcro down near the bottom of the pouch so the grip of the pistol touches the bottom and keeps the area from sagging. I want to get a large hard panel with velcro to support the holster better.
Pros:
- Covert and Comfortable.
Cons:
- CCW area needs a larger velcro area.
Best Used for:
- Everyday carry and travel.

5.11 Tactical Covrt 18 Backpack
I carry a backpack weekly and have been needing to upgrade from the smaller Under Armour bag I bought from Academy. I wanted something with more space, more durable, and also able to conceal carry, and this bag definitely fits those needs!! The material is durable, it has plenty of compartments and even fully loaded still feels lightweight because of how the back panel and shoulder straps are designed. Great product and as always, super fast shipping and excellent service from Optics Planet!

5.11 tactical covrt18 backpack
Great EDC or hiking backpack! High quality as always from 5.11! It has extra strong grab handle. The zippers are awesome, and it doesn’t scream tactical! I bought because of the ccdw compartment for a pistol to take hiking. I highly recommend this bag to anyone!

Excellent except for a couple of things
This ruck is excellent in every way in my opinion except for a couple of things.
First, the carry handle that is located between the two straps is absolutely in the wrong place. It seems to me that this ruck was designed not so much for rucking or long hikes, but rather for use as an office or school backpack. When the ruck is worn high for hiking, as a ruck should be worn, the handle pushes hard into the upper spine, lower neck, and is quite literally a pain in the neck. If I didn't love the rest of it so much I would have just sent the product back; however, I just decided to cut out the handle with my survival knife. Now it fits high on my back and there is no painful push against my neck/upper spine. Tomorrow, I am taking it to a shoe repair guy to patch up the area that I cut.
Second, if you wear a tank top or a t-shirt with short sleeves on a long hike, those long Velcro straps on the ruck's straps will rub the inner part of your upper arms pretty raw. You need sleeves to keep the friction down.
Other than those two points, this is an excellent ruck. It is far roomier than I imagined when I bought it. I have a Camelbak Motherlode, which is supposed to have more space, but this 5.11 Covrt18 ruck is significantly roomier. With this 5.11 ruck it seems there is an appropriate compartment for just about everything, from my Sig P938 (I keep it behind the black flap in the small multi-use compartment), to my medi-kit, my survival kit, my survival knife, compass, chow, GPS, ...

Useful Pack
The pack is well made and very roomy for being as compact as it is.There are plenty of pockets and compartments. The ccw compartment is a bit awkward to access and the velcro for the holster should be lowered in the compartment. All said it is a nice pack

Covrt Backpack
Excellent construction. Very functional without being military or attention getting.
Many well thought out pockets and zippers with concealed carry pocket if wanted.
Many smaller 5.11 bags that can be purchased and enhance this pack.
