I had to take a four-day work trip down to Texas and I actually felt kind of lucky I had this 5.11 Tactical backpack.
I have a packing system I follow when I travel. I like to pack most of my clothes and extra shoes in a suitcase, which I usually check, and then I carry on my camera bag and a backpack with essential stuff like computer, extra socks, and a hygiene bag. I dole it out this way because I've had a bad experience in the past where my suitcase got lost with some essential items inside. Plus, it's easier to get around the airport with a light load.
However, this was a hunting trip, so I had to pack a lot of extra essential gear like boots, snake gaiters, and a warming layer. So, you know my feelings on essential gear and packing. Fortunately, I had access to this 34-liter 5.11 backpack. It provided more room than my daily NorthFace bag, which I still really like.
With the 5.11 bag, I was able to fit all the essential gear and more. I fit extra things like a hardcopy book I got from the library, a notebook and some extra pens, charging cords for my phone and computer, batteries, a week's worth of snacks, a 32-ounce water bottle, and travel mug.
I found all the pockets to be in convenient locations. Inside the main bag, there were two wide mesh pockets with zippers. Behind the handle, there was an electronics pocket with soft lining, and then two utility pockets behind that, which came in handy for COVID supplies like hand sanitizer and wet wipes.
