No knee pad pockets? Really?

by ThatGuy, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on April 11, 2017
If your coming from 5.11 cargo pants, like the Taclite Pro I've come to love, you already pretty much know what your getting. A motorcycle-oriented version of 5.11 cargo pants. Too bad they stopped short.

Off the bike these pants are great. I'd expect no less. Spacious, well positioned pockets. Quality stitching. Comfortable materials. No surprises there.

However what really caught me off guard is that, despite all of their normal "tactical" pants, this model has no space for knee pads. What an oversight on a model made explicitly for motorcycles. The kevlar is nice for abrasion resistance, and is in all the right places (although a little more coverage would be appreciated), so at least that's okay. However have no knee pads pockets, much less hip pockets, really limits the use of these pants. While they might be okay if you have no intention to use pads regardless, I don't think that's a wise attitude considering that you've already gone half the way wearing specialized pants, and today's armor is so comfortable and unnoticeable that it's pointless to not add it.

All in all, I don't think there is any motorcycle pant without armor pockets worth recommending today. This unit is simply no different. Now if you expand kevlar coverage, add knee and hip armor pockets (hopefully multi-position), and perhaps add some velcro straps for cinching, we'd certainly have a winner here.
Pros:
  • durable
  • Comfortable
  • Classic 5.11 functionality
  • Function pocket distribution
  • Kevlar inserts
Cons:
  • Lackluster kevlar coverage
  • No armor pockets!
