Most Helpful Positive Review What I expected for the money
I have hunting buddies with more superior handhelds, but I did not need to rely on this unit as much for identification, but more so for locating. Within 75 yds or so, animal shape can be pretty well identified. At 150 yds you can tell a deer from a house cat for sure, but a Bobcat or Coyote will no...

Most Helpful Negative Review AGM Taipan Monocular
Easy to operate. On 1x power, good clarity. On 2x power animals are getting “fuzzy” looking even at only 75 yds. Might as well not even have 4x or 8x zoom, nothing but a light blob. Basically good for identifying that something is there, then grab your scope. And, advertisement will indicate made i...

pay the extra 300 bucks and get the rattler v2

by austin, Verified Owner from GA, United States Written on December 17, 2024
Monocular works decent inside of 100 yards but it only shows animals. It doesn’t show any of the background of what’s around the animal or heat that it’s picking up. Honestly just pay a couple extra hundred bucks and get the rattler v2 scope. It works well as a spotter and you have the option of putting it on a rifle.

Great for the price

by Rooster, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on February 15, 2024
After researching handheld units in this price range for an eye bleeding amount of time . I decided to order the 256 version of the Taipan.
I have been very impressed with what I got for the price . You can definitely buy units better sensors and longer detection range . The price of higher end thermals seems very exponential not linear like you would expect But for the price this will do the job I bought it for .
I have I high end scope mounted on a rifle, and I don’t like having to pull the weapon up every time I want to see . This monocular gives me the ability to scan the area , then if there is something way out I can use the much better scope ..

Great scanner for the money

by Matt, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on December 29, 2023
This unit is great for scanning and is a relatively small price to pay for being able to detect animals quickly and at range. Deer and hogs are pretty easy to ID out to a couple hundred yards if you have some experience and know their body shapes and movements. Even if you can't ID them at least you'll know somethings there when you might have missed them with nightvision or lights. It's also way better than trying to look around with the optic on your rifle. If you have a large property to hunt it's a big time saver or if you just wanna see what critters are in your yard at night it's good for that too.
Pros:
  • good value
Cons:
  • none yet
Best Used for:
  • Scanning and detection

Great Entry Level Thermal

by Max, Verified Owner from WI, United States Written on November 13, 2023
Bought this after being extremely disappointed by an ATN OTS-XLT thermal. Great FOV, good for simple thermal scanning and observation. Sadly made in china, but they all are at this tier so it is what it is.

Great battery life!

by Craig in SLA, from LA, United States Written on July 25, 2023
After a year of use, I feel that it's possible to now give the TM10-256 a review. The range is as advertised, about 100 yards +-. The moisture in the air has a lot to do with the distance. I pig hunt along a bayou, so I'm good with 100 yards depicting pig from deer. Aides with deer recovery in dense vegetation.
Pros:
  • sleep mode helps prolong battery life
  • Sleep mode is great.
Cons:
  • Storage pouch is too small, difficult to put monocular into pouch.
Best Used for:
  • Easier to scan the hunting area
  • Easier to scan the hunting area with the monocular rather than using the rifle with thermal imaging.

Good monocular

by Sgtmac168, from CO, United States Written on May 18, 2023
I like this better than the ATN version as it seems to have a clearer and much bigger field of view...it is simple once you get the switchology down. The only problem I have has thus far is disappearing pictures. I took probably 20 pics and when I went to transfer to my phone there were only 4. Surely an 8gig on board memory holds more than 4 pics.
On another note, on the competitions version I couldn't transfer the pics to my pc or phone. I am not sure what to do at this point as I am past the point of return.
Does anybody else's have this problem? I know I could send them to my phone as I go but could be a hassle in the dark capturing moving hot spots.

Crisp image . Great range !

by Jeff, from FL, United States Written on March 1, 2023
I'm glad I got this. I first purchased a FLIR SCOUT TK from a different selling and overpaid for it. I didn't like it and returned the FLIR . This AGM has more features like "zoom " and has a very Crisp picture !! Ironically talking about night vision thermal ,it is a night and day difference between the two . I'm keeping this AGM for sure .
Pros:
  • Crisp image and good battery life .
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Surveillance, hunting and just seeing at night .

AGM Taipan TM 10-256 by G-Man

by G-Man, from OH, United States Written on February 25, 2023
Yes i would buy it agin i was Hog hunting in Georgia for a week. you can identify animals at 250 yards if you have used thermal before. but you need something else to confirm before it before you shoot a infrared or thermal scope. i had a infrared monocular before this beats it hands down.
Pros:
  • it beats use gun to spot animals
Cons:
  • you have to be to make sure you turn it off
Best Used for:
  • spotting animals
