John D's Review of Tac-Six Tactical Gun Sock
I needed to get another pair of Allen gun socks for my 2 SKS rifles: I changed the stocks on them and needed socks that were a bit WIDER so they wouldn't fit so tightly over the Tapco stocks I got to replace the original SKS wood stocks (which I am keeping, of course, so the guns can be returned to original condition in the future). Originally, the "standard width" Allen gun socks (often the green ones you find in sporting good stores and often 54" in length, IIRC) were on the SKSs, and they worked just fine width-wise (had to fold the tying end over as 54" was too long for an SKS) as the rifles were in their original wood-stock configuration -- with no optic sights on them -- so the "standard width" gun green socks fit perfectly width-wise. But when I changed the stocks on both SKSs to the Tapco synthetic stocks, I found the Tapco's butt-plate/pad was wider than the original SKS wood stock butt-plate AND the Tapco stock has a pistol-grip on it (unlike the original wood stock), so both of these "protrusions" stretched the "standard" green gun socks too much (wide) for my liking. Additionally, I added a SightMark QD Reflex Sight (Model SM14000) to both SKSs (atop the gas tube "forearm" assembly on the picatinny rail the Tapco stock has) and that ALSO was a bit much for the "standard" green gun sock to cover (don't like overstretching these socks). Consequently, from the sparse product description that EVERYONE gives on these gun socks (NO ONE give their actual dimensions width-wise -- even the MAKER, Allen!!) it seems the 42" Allen black "Tactical" socks would work. They did. And, at 42" long they fit the SKS's length perfectly (in their Tapco Stocks, with the Tapco M4/M6 sliding butt-stock completely collapsed) -- but the sock could not be any shorter than 42" as 42 is about as short as it could be without stretching the sock too much to get it over the SKS's muzzle to cover & tie it properly (if the "tactical" sock were 43" or 44" it'd be better for my needs). Still, this Allen black "Tactical" gun sock is exactly what I needed for my SKS in its Tapco "Interfuse" synthetic stocks. Plus, since one of them is my "car gun" the BLACK color of the sock on the floor blends in with my black carpeting, so it's REAL HARD even to see even during the day, let alone at night (and yes, it is also SECURED to an immovable object, too) should some low-life be looking into cars to see what to steal. In short then, these Allen Tactical socks are better than the standard green ones in the sense that they're WIDER so they'll go over pistol grips stocks and scopes much easier without unduly stretching them.
