Most Helpful Positive Review Meramac 3-person
This is a product that turned out to be exactly what was advertised. The quality of materials is excellent and the workmanship of manufacture was equally excellent. There have been no problems at all with the design: all of the zippers work perfectly and it is easy to get into and out of either door. The tent is very simple to set up and perhaps equally important, easy to pack up again: both can be done in just a few minutes. (I have had tents in he past that I sometimes wouldn't use because they were such a pain to pack up after each use: this one is easy and pleasant to pack up). If this ...

Great motorcycle/ATV camping tent with a little extra length

by FrankW, Verified Owner from UT, United States Written on May 11, 2017
This is a great little tent at a very good price point. It's light enough that you can use it for backpacking if you don't want to spend the $$ for a truly lightweight tent. The thing that really drew me to this tent is that it is 7-1/2' long instead of the more typical 7'. In my 7' long tent my sleeping pad would go wall to wall and I always seemed to have my pillow or feet against one wall or the other. The extra 6" of length makes a surprisingly big difference for a tall guy like me. But where this tent finds its nich for me is in motorcycle and ATV camping. It packs easily on your ride and is big enough for you and your personal gear to stay warm and dry. Love the tent so far and the quality is there so I expect to get many good years of service from it. Recommended!
Pros:
  • Price
  • Great Size
  • Quality and workmanship
  • Two doors
  • Good ventilation
Cons:
  • A bit heavy for backpacking
Best Used for:
  • Motorcycle camping

Awesome car-camping tent with awesome OpticsPlanet product support.

by Emile Borne, Verified Owner from AR, United States Written on May 17, 2016
I camped with a 20 year old WM Ozark Trail 8'x10' (5' tall) tent. A deluge came and almost floated me away. I was on a tent pad at a national park. The water that decided not to come through the tent floor seams, passed under the tent and it was like walking on a waterbed as I scurried around bailing water so my air mattress wouldn't float. The next morning I got on the internet and found an Alps Mountaineering Meramac 5 for only $99, free shipping no tax from OpticsPlanet. I received it in time for my next trip and built the tent for a trial run in my garage. It’s a puzzle but I had fun. The most challenging task is trying to get the rain fly secured on all corners of the tent – it’s slippery and keeps wanting to slide off. Speaking of the fly – it was missing a critical piece of Velcro strap that’s intended to help hold the fly in the correct position in the event of high wind. I photographed the problem and emailed OpticsPlanet. They hurried out a second fly that was complete. As to the tent itself, I had recently purchased an Alps Mountaineering Tri-Leg Stool and found the product outstanding in all ways. I can say the same thing re: the Meramac 5. I’m 6’ tall so I can stand up without getting a neck ache. The tent pan has seams in it for which I purchased Kenyon Seam Sealer. I also purchased a 10-mil poly tarp (8’x10’) to help protect the floor. I think that’s absolutely essential – there were many small indentions in the floor, even with the tarp underneath, after wa...

Solid Tent!

by Cole, from AR, United States Written on August 30, 2014
The Meramac 5 lived up perfectly to my expectations. The little details were taken care of with this tent. The doubl zippers work well, and the mesh storage net is very useful. The tent was taller and less sloped than I expected, which is a plus. Very room and comfortable. It even came with stakes, stake markers, and cord. Very useful utility tent, and it arrived in only three days! Aluminum poles would be better, but the fiberglass works fine!
Pros:
  • Big
  • Tall
  • Rain Fly

  • None
