Read the directions!
I suspect the first reviewer...Joe from Maine...didn't read the directions. Minimum viewing distance is 10 meters...32.8 feet...which is why he couldn't read the text on a bottle at 15 feet!!
I also suspect he doesn't know how to use the diopter control to properly focus the unit for his personal e...

First Night Vision
Bought this on a whim not expecting a whole lot at this price point. Boy was I surprised. My fence out back is about 60yds and I can see the wire, tree line at 150yds is very clear. The illuminator is like turning on a light in the room and the swivel makes it easy to aim the light. Coyotes beware!!!
Pros:
- Very clear for the price
Cons:
- heavier than expected
Best Used for:
- night critter elimination

Armasight "Night Vision"
So I'm not sure if I got a faulty scope or what. With that being said I know this scope is a gen 1. By all means did not expect anything fancy. The scope itself you could hardly see anything unless it was right in front of you. It came with the IR ilium flashlight so I was like well this should help obviously because that's what it's designed to do. Brighten the area up. Although it did brighten the area up. It was to bright to the point where you could hardly make anything out. So I adjusted the brightness down and that helped. Even with that being said I could only see about 30yards out. For the money it was not worth it to me. I will be looking into other night vision options. I know armasight puts out a good product and I could have just got a bad one.

Great product
Not able to use on a rifle yet due to weather but I powered the scope up and it works great. I am able to see beyond 100 yds with clarity during low light. The cross hairs are clear and easy to adjust brightness.

It Works! ...for limited applications
Had I spent more money on it I may have only given it three stars, but given the price/value, it deserves four stars for a working, functional NV scope!
I can imagine a few scenarios where this would be valuable, but it's characteristics make it less versatile than I had hoped. Think lying prone in very dark conditions with a specific target. It wouldn't work walking through the woods except maybe to periodically check the trail ahead. I plan on using it from my deck to spot the critters coming out of the woods and see what my dog is barking at.
Notes:
It's heavy, big, & solidly built.
Narrow field of vision. Especially with the 3x zoom and the moderate distortion around the edges.
Max effective range 2-300 yds. Ideal range is probably around 100 yds.
Nice illuminated reticle, although I haven't figured out how I'm going to sight it yet...
The IR flashlight helps in the very dark, but not needed with moderate ambient lighting.
Conclusion: It's a neat toy that I will get some use out of, but unfortunately, it is not going to make me the stealth ninja I had imagined...

Can't go wrong for the $$$!
This is the 2nd 1st generation night vision product that I've purchase from optics planet and so far it has met or exceeded expectations especially for the price. I'm only a weekend warrior and mostly use it on a practice air soft gun or a training weapon but do occasionally mount it on an A R or a high powered sniper rifle. It works fine on the training weapons fine but is limited on the high powered. I have invested in high powered I I illuminator and does help but just remember that it is only 3x power and realistically if you want more out of your night vision optics you should be looking to spend a lot more than this for them. All in all for what I need them for, training. It works fine. Especially for the price.
Pros:
- they do what they are advertised to do
- The price is more than reasonable.
Cons:
- The size and weight
Best Used for:
- medium-short ranger precision

Works fine out to 100 yards
The scope has worked quite well for me on distances under 75 yards. Past 75 yards it could use a stronger IR light. The strap that holds the front cover on tore at the securing post the second time out. Will be contacting OP for a replacement. I will update once a response is received. All in all, a good scope for the money.

OPMOD GEN1RS Night Vision Rifle Scope
We have tested this scope on 3 seperate firearms. The SKS Carbine. The AR-15A3 with a 20 inch barrel. The 5.45mmx39mm East German Border Guard Bolt action rifle. With each test the performance of the scope has been excellent. Very easy to mount and then dismount and store. We have run about 500 rounds under this scope with no ill effects what so ever. The next rifle to be tested will be a Savage Tactical in .270 Rem. A follow up evaluation will be provided. Over all very good results and we are very satisfied with the unit.

Good value but heavy!
I am pleased with the scope overall, but this sucker is very heavy and bulky. I suppose that's the price you pay for a first generation scope, though. I haven't had a chance to sight it in yet, but it was kind of cool to take out into the back yards and demonstrate to my kids how NV scopes work. One word of advice to new buyers; buy a riser when you get the scope. It makes it just about the right height for an AR.

Great product at a great price.
I bought one for my son for a CHRISTmas present. The product exceeded all expectations for this price. I intend to buy one for myself. The first order was received without the IR illuminator. I called customer and they immediately sent a replacement scope. Product and customer service were superior and I intend to purchase again from Optics Planet.
