After 27 years of military service and use of every time of night vision device in the military inventory to include gogs on my helmet in a viper, I was very skeptical that any civilian Gen1 would satisfy my requirements. Spending $3-5K on NVG of any sort would not satisfy my wife's expectations for my spending on gear. It took me awhile to finally break down and buy an entry level Gen1+ unit and after months of reading reviews and considering the Pros and Cons at the price point I decided on the Armasight OPMOD Spark Core. I spent a few minutes with my 15 yo explaining Image intensification versus thermal imaging until his eyes glazed over because he just wanted to play with this really cool thing I bought. I was pleased with the image around our home and with IR spot light.
