This is a great product for the price. If I had to compare it to a gen 2 or a gen 2 plus, you would get more out of your money with this product. You can get separate accessories to wear it on a helmet or you can mount it directly to the eye piece of your rifle scope. It will work well with the AR 15 platform. Definately a good buy. Even if you upgrade to a gen 2 plus or a gen 3 later this one is still a good one to keep on hand while the expensive gen 3 is in the safe.

Item preformed well and has mostly a clear and sharp image . The focus ring is a little bit tight and probably needs to be used a few times to operate more freely . Other than that for the price i would say it is a good product.

I bought this for my bug out bag. I was expecting something good for the price since the reviews I read were always favorable. The item far exceeded my expectations and the minimal complaints I had read on it are really splitting hairs. Besides the great price it really is a good monocular. It's clarity and sharpness are super good.

I pulled out the head gear and BAM. Proprietary mounts....WHY? All of the options I discovered online to attach the NVG to my current mounts exceeded $100 and or I could change all the mounts around on our gear and Hundreds more spent needlessly. This isn't tactical this is good old fashion hog hunting etc and I really don't want to spend a bundle on Armasight mounts etc. I ditched GoPro years ago for the same reason and now that I use Replay XP and other cameras and videos equipment with standard mounts for tripods etc. This could have been a great review but I spent hours trying to figure out how to attach the NVG top my mounts that I could have spent doing something fun. The final Answer, spend money, which doesn't make me a happy consumer. Time to pull out a block of aluminum and make a threaded mount. Heck maybe I will sell them for $15.

After 27 years of military service and use of every time of night vision device in the military inventory to include gogs on my helmet in a viper, I was very skeptical that any civilian Gen1 would satisfy my requirements. Spending $3-5K on NVG of any sort would not satisfy my wife's expectations for my spending on gear. It took me awhile to finally break down and buy an entry level Gen1+ unit and after months of reading reviews and considering the Pros and Cons at the price point I decided on the Armasight OPMOD Spark Core. I spent a few minutes with my 15 yo explaining Image intensification versus thermal imaging until his eyes glazed over because he just wanted to play with this really cool thing I bought. I was pleased with the image around our home and with IR spot light. The real test would be to throw one of my old tactical helmets on(Norotos mount, Rhino arm with a standard mil spec J arm) and allow him to walk around outside

After reading the reviews I pulled the trigger and ordered the Spark. My intention was to use it for night spotting feral hogs from static platforms and downed animal recovery. The clarity and detail looks Gen2 to my eyes. The IR does well out to 50-60 yards and for distances beyond the ambient light will clearly identify hogs vs deer. Terrific addition to your "plan B" toolbox and night hunting arsenal.

You probably won't find a nicer set for this price. Happy with it to use as a dedicated sight. Sure you can get a Gen 2+ or Gen 3, but if you're looking for a sight you can afford, or a dedicated site for scoping out the yard or probably brush hunting, this will do the trick. There is a little distortion around the edges that is noticeable, but for the price, it's great.

The first one was defective and returned to OP. The second one had a minor defect. Rather than returning the second one to OpticsPlanet, I contacted Armasight. They were very helpful in identifying the problem and a solution. They sent me a new front lens at no charge. Changing the lens was as simple as unscrewing the old one and screwing in the new one. The Spark CORE now works properly. Excellent customer service from Armasight. I am a new Armasight fan :)

The first unit was defective, but OP replaced it. The lens looked like it was installed improperly and the image was really blurry on the right half. Focusing the front and rear didn't seem to help.
The new one has an outstanding image for the money. Since this is a gen1, the light amplification isn't all that great, so you may have to use an external IR illuminator for distance work. The image is very high quality. There are very few image artifacts. There is, however, a minor problem on the replacement one. The front focus ring slips when you try to focus (the tan part). It also slides off when you try to remove the lens cap. Under the tan focus ring is a black focus ring with grooves like a camera. It looks like the glue on the tan focus ring cover on mine is stripped. Given the quality of the image, I will probably keep it and call Armasight for advice on how to fix it. Maybe they can send me a new part that will fix it.
So, the image quality is great. Hopefully, I just got unlucky on the quality issues. I would buy it again, but I suggest that you check it carefully.

I am very satisfied with this Monocular. The Picture is basically Gen 2 in my opinion. The best part about the Spark is the options that it allows. You can purchase equipment that turns it into a rifle scope to a DLSR lens attachment.
