Useful Entry Level Night Vision

by Matt S., Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on November 18, 2016
If you are looking to spend less than $500, digital night vision is what you should look at.

The nice thing about digital night vision is that it isn't damaged by direct light exposure. That makes it great for loaning to friends or using in environments where you might encounter direct light sources.

The downside to digital is that it is highly IR dependent when there is little to no ambient light. But this unit performs well in most conditions, anything over 100yds is hard to see.

Great unit for casual observation, but the 5x magnification makes it tough to use for navigation.

I've used it around my property to see what's moving about and have used it on a boat as well to see breakwalls.

I am a fan of Armasight products and this one is no exception.
Most Helpful Positive Review perfect device for casual needs
Ive never been using NV devices before, as I never needed those, but when couple of months ago we moved to the new house with a larger garden plots, I decided to buy one for safety reasons. Theres a multiple choice on the market, so I followed my friends advice to buy smth from Armasights line of pr...

Most Helpful Negative Review Do not expect high res views
I received this as a free gift with the order of a thermal weapon sight. It works ok for close in observing with the built in illuminator. Do not expect great resolution or wide field views. Would be ok for casual use camping. Solid mechanical build and light weight. If you want one for the kids to ...

When night vision starts at $500plus, I should have known better than to have expectations that this would produce acceptable results.
Night vision using this is almost non-existent I returned it to optics planet for a refund. I don't know if I got a bad unit but am not willing to risk it again. I'll just save up for a real unit.

Okay For A First Generation Device

by Jakebuf, from TX, United States Written on February 1, 2015
It took a bit to get the system working and to use the limited area of viewing that a monocular allows. It has been good for distances out to 100 yards and will probably be okay beyond that. I have not had the opportunity to view night animals beyond that distance to date.
I will probably buy a booster for the IR.
Pros:
  • Provides some night viewing capability
Cons:
  • Limited field of view at a distance
Best Used for:
  • Observing animals

Decent but not great

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on May 12, 2014
For the price it is probably the best one out there. For fun it works, for any other uses I would not purchase it. We wanted something just to keep out at the cabin, something anyone could grab and use in the middle of the night to have some fun. It works for that. Nothing else though.
Pros: Price
Cons: Clarity and Distance
