Most Helpful Positive Review Core technology is a great value
I have used this scope for about a month. I am prior military and experienced with Gen3 and thermal military hardware. I also have limited exposure to civilian GEN1. I have never used GEN2. I hope to present mostly fact and add a some opinion to it. Initial sight in: All rounds fired were Hornad...

Most Helpful Negative Review Insanely huge
The vampire works just fine. And the price is just fine. But it all comes at a price. It's just way too big. When you consider putting on the IR illuminator with the unit and possibly a scope it's just ridiculous. I'd rather buy a clip-on or a head unit.

very sturdy built

by wilson, from OH, United States Written on February 22, 2019
I like the scope as it functions like it should. I have taking a few coyotes with it after using thermal to scan while on stands calling. Gives you a positive ID of target. The eye cup does fall off easy as said in other reviews but i installed a small zip tie around it and hasnt fell off anymore. The scope is a little bit bigger than most but i will put up with the weight over other smaller NV optics because of the crisp and clear image it has. Battery life isnt as bad as i expected unless you are in really cold temps. I added an aftermarket IR because i wasnt impressed with the one that comes with it. My biggest draw back to the whole unit is i wish it was more that 3 power magnification. To get the 6 power magnification you have to step up to a unit more than double the price.
Pros:
  • Price
  • Durability and dependability
  • good image for price
Cons:
  • Limited magnification
  • makes you want the next step up in NV quality. lol
  • weight, but its tolerable
Best Used for:
  • Predator hunting
  • home security

good quality at a good price

by Tom, from WA, United States Written on May 24, 2018
This scope is a night scope and can't be used during the day. It is heavy and bulky but appears to be well built. Sighting in will be more difficult due to the fact that it is not a day/night scope. I have used it mostly handheld but it does mount easily to a rifle with its quick detach mount which is adjustable. It comes with an IR illuminator which does emit a faint red glow which is detectable by the naked eye but is not like a laser. As the intensity of the IR is increased so is the brightness of the glow but still faint especially at distance. I had to zip tie the rubber eye piece which falls off easily. One needs to be able to adjust the focus, on/off switch and IR by feel as it will be done during the dark. There is a warning with this scope not to point it had bright lights. Using it handheld I was able to see features in the pasture behind my house that I could not make out with the naked eye at about 300 yards. I could easily see the fence posts that were further even without the IR . The IR is adjustable for intensity and the beam can be adjusted for wide view or more pin point. Indoor, without any light, the IR is necessary to see anything. I would buy this scope again knowing its limitations. For what I wanted the price was reasonable. To navigate at night using this scope handheld or on a weapon it could be done but by taking baby steps and in no way would be as good as goggles. For seeing what is going bump in the night this scope fits the bill without breaking...

Very impressed

by Bill, from CO, United States Written on January 3, 2018
Impressed I can see out over 300 yds very clear. I tried it through all moon phases can see pretty good with no moon and no ir on about 150yds in the desert with it on lights up really nice. Now my complaints the rubber eye piece falls off very easily and the quick connect for the scope would not lock up tight I called aramsight they told me to hit the adjusting nut with a hammer to get it into the slot I said wtf hit the scope with a hammer I went a different route I had to take some ruff edges off and now it works great

Excellent scope for the money . Way beyond normal gen 1+.200yd shots would not be unrealistic . Very clear ,no sparkles ,very accurate , 3/4 groups at 100yds with no moon . Would like to see it in 6x but for the price it's the best deal out there.

Good product

by woodsdog, Verified Owner from NY, United States Written on November 1, 2017
The sight is big but well made and is an excellent entry level night vision sight. I would highly recommend it for the predator and hog hunter. It also comes with a robust mounting platform and a very nice IR Illuminator. I think Flir and Armasight, because they specialize in night vision equipment do a good job for that market niche.
Pros:
  • High quality
  • A lot of product for the money
  • Everying you need in one package
Cons:
  • Heavy
Best Used for:
  • night hunting predators and hogs

Great Product

Supposedly, Gen I is of limited use. I disagree. Used for coyotes with great success. Solid. IR illuminator is a big plus. Rock solid. Not small. Easy to use, good ergonomics, rugged. Would buy again in a heartbeat. Good price vs. value.
Pros:
  • user friendly
Cons:
  • Bulky.
Best Used for:
  • night hunting

Shockingly Impressive

by Chase, from IL, United States Written on March 30, 2017
This is my first night vision and it's perfect for an introductory night vision. Easy to use, VERY well built. The IR and battery charger for the IR included are great value. Very crisp picture out to 100+ yards. This is going to be great for hog hunting. For 1/4 the cost of other NV, this NV is a BUY BUY BUY!!!

Great Gen 1 scope

by badron, from CA, United States Written on February 15, 2017
Probably the best Gen 1 scope on the market. The CORE technology does make it comparable to Gen 2 when the IR illuminator is used. The IR 850 that comes with this scope gives you a clear picture to 100 yards and farther depending on the background.
Pros:
  • great value and quality in a very reasonably priced piece of gear
Cons:
  • None

Talk about bang for your buck!

by Jared, from KS, United States Written on February 13, 2017
I have used $3,500 PVS 14 night vision before so I didn't put to much faith in a $800 unit. Let me tell you I was wrong, way wrong. On a cloudy night you can easily see 100 yards with the included IR light. The Video's you find online do not do this unit justice at all! With the CORE technology the image is crisp and clear. I was able to identify a skunk at 65 yards with no IR light used (full moon was out). With a full moon you will not need the IR light at all. I was able to see well out past 300 yards and spot the heard of pigs we were hunting. Used the unit on a AR chambered in 7.62x39 and held zero night after night. The only complaint I have is the unit is heavy. Shooting from a kneeling position, prone or resting against an object is recommended. The included IR light does a good job of reflecting light back from eyes to help locate targets. All in all, you can't go wrong with this entry level night vision.
Pros:
  • Included IR illuminator for total darkness
  • Clear Bright Optics
Cons:
  • Heavy but rugged
