Grip and Funnel

by Matt S., Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on May 19, 2016
Pretty typical Polymer Magwell Grip, so some fitting/sanding is required if you have a non mil-spec lower receiver or a non mil-spec trigger guard. Since the trigger guard on my TROY is the enlarged version to accommodate gloves, I had to grab a file and tweak the shape slightly.

But otherwise it is easy to install, provides a spacious yet nicely contoured grip area, and definitely creates a magwell for improved magazine insertion.

I have used the Mako Magwell Grip, which also required fitting (most of these polymer ones do). I like the Rhino better because it provides more of a magazine funnel. Moved the Mako to my 9mm AR pistol since the magwell isn't as important for Colt SMG stick mags.

Bottom line: Great addition to a mil spec lower. Worth trying one of these magwell style grips if you haven't. Don't expect a perfect fit, that way you will be pleasantly surprised if you get one.
Most Helpful Positive Review Awsome Grip
This is my second one, i really like this grip. This one did not fit my psa lower but i got my dremel out and sanded the area on it where it fits over the trigger guard and works great now and my first one fit my Anderson lower perfect. Depending on what lower you have, you might have to do a little...

Most Helpful Negative Review Its ok, but not worth it
Install is easy and straightforward. The grip is not flimsy but it does feel cheap, however it is very light. Be careful when ordering bc it looked black but it’s actually grey, which after I received it, sure enough it says grey, so that’s my fault. I do not like to give negative reviews, but how ...

great AR add on

by Tackleberry, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on May 13, 2025
The Armaspec Rhino magazine funnel is a great tool for speed loading your AR. It's easy to install and fits perfectly. If you have a drop down trigger guard, you may need to trim it a bit to fit. It's a solid piece and if you grip your AR just in front of your magwell, the finger grooves give you a great purchase with your support hand. I'd highly recommend this magwell for your AR style rifles. My only complaint is the delivery service. USPS IS HORRIBLE! If you have the option, go with a different carrier like UPS. My package showed up very late and completely destroyed!

by Badkharma, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on March 6, 2024
Great addition to sbr. Nice gripping surface without affecting the magazine, nice flared magwell. Helps to keep weapon as short as possible and gives plenty of control on sbr. Good texture and looks good.
Pros:
  • able to get whole hand around
  • does not interfere with magazine
  • flared magwell
Cons:
  • None

Armaspec Rhino

by Tackleberry, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on December 31, 2023
I have a few of these AR funnels or magwells. They work great. If you're looking for faster reloads or just a place to put your support hand, this is it. Great product and fantastic price. These magwells also work flawlessly with magazine couplers. The only issue is they will not work with some aftermarket magazines such as ProMag or any other polymer mags with a wider profile than the standard steel or aluminum ones.

Armaspec Rhino R23 maxwell and grip

by Ronin48, Verified Owner from NC, United States Written on November 30, 2023
I've bought several of these over the years for different builds. I like them. They are a affordable AR15 type upgrade that is both practical, speeding up mag changes and enhances the look of the MSR as well.
Pros:
  • Price and functionality
Cons:
  • Made out of polymer, but that's necessary to keep it affordable
Best Used for:
  • Upgrading AR builds

Not quite what I expected

by John Anderson, Verified Owner from MN, United States Written on March 5, 2023
Bought for an AR micro pistol to have a better two hand forward grip point. I'm using 10 round Magpul mags and when these are in place the ten rounder is way up inside the funnel....way too difficult to insert. Okay, I'll cut the bottom 1.5 grip points off. Nope. The front of this part is hollow and cutting the bottom even with the bottom two fastener holes leaves open hollow spaces that look terrible. I didnt see the hollow insude as there was no picture of it, nor of how wide it is at the bottom of the mag funnel. Lastly, with this clamped in place it blocks half the serial number. If the firearm is an SBR or a travel gun, having that number visible is important. As such, I will not use this. I wont waste miney returning it but might use it on another gun as the funnel works nicely.
Pros:
  • Easy to install.
  • Funnel works nicely.
Cons:
  • Funnel too deep for ten round mags

Function > form

by Lazarus, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on February 23, 2023
If this fits your receiver, it works as intended. It’s a place to gain a three finger grip on your magwell, a bit better than a bare magwell, and keeps you from grabbing the magazine itself.

Also acts as a nice flared funnel for the magwell, as others have said, makes it pretty hard to miss.

Was able to make it fit on a couple lowers, was a struggle on a couple others. Works best on milspec AR 15 lowers with flat (removable) trigger guard. Can be fit to an M4 with some persuasion, but may fatigue the plastic over time. Fit the Milspec AR like a glove.

Also, as others have said, it does add a bit of bulk to an otherwise trim section of the rifle. It’s light, and thin, but clearly made of strong polymer that should stand up to hard use, though it may crack if it hits the ground just right.

I bought it to use as a vert grip on a 7.5” barrel 300blk pistol. Worked well in that regard, but still, just wasn’t very ergonomic and definitely chunky.

Not usually one to worry too much about aesthetics, but I must say… this is fugly.

This is the front-butt of AR grips.
Pros:
  • Functional
  • aids reloading
  • something other than metal to grab
Cons:
  • Bulky
  • Ugly
  • only fits milspec AR 15 with flat trigger guard
Best Used for:
  • mil spec lower magazine well funnel and grip, if thats what you need. i wouldnt buy another.

Function Above All

by A in Memphis, from TN, United States Written on January 8, 2023
The magwell funnel is easily installed and is very secure. It makes no permanent marks or modifications if you decide to remove it later. If you practice combat reloads, especially in low light this magwell makes it virtually impossible to miss. Magazine changes are fumble free regardless of your dexterity. The only downside is that it is ugly. It hasn’t caught on my gear or been an impediment operationally.
Pros:
  • Great Function
  • Easy to instal
  • not permanent
Cons:
  • Ugly
Best Used for:
  • Any application where really fast reloads are needed.

great alternative for vertical foregrip!!!(NYS)

by Kenny, Verified Owner from NY, United States Written on December 12, 2022
I bought this as a little gamble on the product.... in NYS we are limited to EVERYTHING and bought this to see how it could function effectively as some sort of vertical foregrip and i can definitely say it is FUNCTIONAL!!.....mounted it, took my rifle to the range and could not be happier!!!!
The price is right and goes on easily on my Diamondback AR15(DB15 NYS COMPLIANT).... GREAT PURCHASE!!!... Now all I need to do is add some Talon grips on this thing and I'm all set.
