Most Helpful Positive Review Clear enough to count .22 holes at 100yrds
For those that would rather spend their money on a better rifle scope than a spotter but still want their range buddy to see well enough to spot for them. The optics were bright, with good contrast, resolution and decent color saturation. In my testing against a +$1000 Leupold, this matched it for r...

Most Helpful Negative Review Very Budget Spotting Scope
I used this on 4 hunts this year plus all of the scouting. 2 pronghorn antelope, a muzzleloader elk hunt, and my daughters first mule deer hunt. The glass is pretty clear and the scope is very useable at the lower settings. I would use my binoculars to locate game then switch to this to see antle...

Made in China Again

by John, Verified Owner from WV, United States Written on June 28, 2026
I was disappointed with this scope because the focus adjustment was sloppy and had some play in it which makes a person hunt and screw around trying to find that "just right" fine focus point. The rubber eye cups for glasses wearers were no different. I think I would go to a good sporting goods shop and try a few other brands before buying this Athlon .
Pros:
  • It comes with a nice carrying case.
Cons:
  • The included tripod is totally useless for a top heavy scope like this.
Best Used for:
  • Maybe bird watching?
Would recommend: No

The tripod holds the scope up but is def on the cheaper side compared to some others.
Pros:
  • Clear picture

New Spotting Scope

by joeykatp, Verified Owner from NY, United States Written on January 16, 2026
I find this spotting scope to be very clear and letting good light through to see my 22lr shots on target.
For the price point, as good or better than other scopes for more money.
Pros:
  • Clarity
Cons:
  • not sure of durability
Best Used for:
  • Intended Application

Athlon Spotting Scope 20-60 X 80mm

by David Snyder, Verified Owner from AL, United States Written on March 26, 2025
You can't beat this spotting scope for the money! I bought the cheaper ones like Barska and I could not see anything. I shoot from 25 yards to 100 yards and I can see my bullet strikes easily down to 223.
Pros:
  • great value for the money
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Rifle range shooting
Would recommend: Yes

Excellent Value Spotting Scope

by Rob J, from GA, United States Written on January 1, 2025
I wanted to replace my old Simmons 15-45x55mm spotting scope, and after watching various online video reviews I settled on this Athlon Talos scope. Optics Planet shipped quickly; the product was well packed and arrived in perfect condition. For the price point this scope is well built and feels very solid in the hand. All of the controls operate very smoothly with no gritty feeling when in use. The clarity of this optic is excellent with minimal chromatic aberration at full zoom. The zoom range of 20-60x is very useable, and the large objective diameter does a good job of light gathering for a clear, bright image. Focusing is fast and easy. The first night I had this scope was a full moon, so I mounted it to a full size camera tripod and went outside for a quick viewing test. Both my wife and I were quite impressed by the quality of the details we were easily able to see on the moon's surface. Speaking of tripods, the included tabletop mini tripod is useable although not great. I would suggest using a more stable tripod to help minimize movement / shaking. I haven't taken this scope to the outdoor range yet, but I am planning to do so as soon as possible. Based upo...

Excellent value for the money

by JP, Verified Owner from MD, United States Written on December 19, 2024
Purchased this based on Moondog's Youtube review. Solidly built scope and impressive optical quality for a very reasonable price. Nice to know the company stands behind their products with a lifetime warranty The included tripod is good and certainly usable, but I ended up buying a different tabletop mini tripod with greater functionality.

spotting scope

by Hammy Bones, Verified Owner from KY, United States Written on December 19, 2024
Only paid $129 for this scope so i wasn't expecting much. Bought other low priced spotting scopes that were pure garbage. But this one (Athlon Talos) was totally different. Great scope .Clear glass ,great focus . Friends and myself do percision shooting out to 1000 yards and with this scope you can clearly and easily see impacts on steel or miss splashes in the dirt. Honestly at 1000 yards you can easily see the hole in the steel target to hang it. Only con would be the tight eye box at full magnification for 1000. For $129 its an amazing scope. Would highly recommended for anyone that's a budget shooter.

Very Impressed!

by Peter Bowman, Verified Owner from IL, United States Written on October 15, 2024
I got this for my daughter and I when we go shooting 22lr together, and despite the low price, we are both very impressed with how wonderful the view is! I wanted something that I wouldn't worry about tossing in the side by side and taking on the farm, or having kids us, and it has been perfect for that so far. I've already recommended to several buddies. Great buy!
Pros:
  • Cost is great
Cons:
  • Tripod works but cheap

Great scope

by Jason Woodward, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on October 7, 2024
This is a great scope. Having this scope and my wife spotting for me got me on target faster and with fewer shots. Seeing shot placement as it happens is a plus. It comes with a tabletop tripod, and it seems nice and sturdy. Also comes with a carry bag. Overall, a nice setup. I've only used it to sight in at 100 yards, but the view is crisp and clear.
