Sturdy Tripod

by Jeremy, Verified Owner from OR, United States Written on September 21, 2024
This tripod has many nice accessories and is strong enough to hold most rifles I own with an Arca setup. The locking and unlocking are smooth, and the tripod deploys quickly.
Pros:
  • Sturdy
Cons:
  • not the lightest but not bad either
Would recommend: Yes

Much more functional and stable than the CF 29! Thank You for all of your hardest working employees that were above and beyond! I’ve read some of your not greatest reviews on Snipers Hideout and there’s a pointer for the youngest s. Which I learned. ITS ON YOU FOR NOT SPEAKING UP. Sense I did No problems. Great Tripod - Very solid platform

by hless, Verified Owner from WI, United States Written on July 26, 2024
I like the quality of this tripod, it is very stable and easy to setup. Make sure you check inside the carry case to find everything relating to the leveling head. I did find that the arca receiver at the top of the ball head was slightly damaged when I got it. It looked like something struck it hard and gouged it. Still works but damaged. This would have had 5 stars if it was not damaged
Pros:
  • Quality , price , multi use options , tunability
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • shooting platform

It's a well-built tripod and well thought out. Knob sizes are ideal, and I look forward to getting out and using it asap.

This tripod is on the heavy side for packing in the back country but DANG is it nice! I’m going to give it a try and see how it goes.

Quality for less

by Old Shooter, Verified Owner from OK, United States Written on April 2, 2023
I wanted the competitor tripod, but I couldn't bring myself to spend the extra $440.This tripod looks and feels solid. With legs extended enough to bring the top of the tripod to 4 feet high, I let my 50lbs son stand on it while I balanced him. I did not notice any flex and it held firm. I bought the Kopfjager Reaper Grip. It mounts directly to the leveling head. Although the reaper grip states in its description that it is not arca-swiss compatible, it did work with the arca-swiss mount on the ball head. The primary purpose for this purchase is teaching my son how to shoot. The tripod excelled at this task. Using the ball head it steadied his aim, supported the weight of the rifle, and assisted keeping the muzzle pointed down range. I couldn't be happier with the purchase and money saved over the competitor.

  • Hunting Recreational viewing
  • Training new or younger shooters

Athlon cf36

by Coyote slayer, Verified Owner from WI, United States Written on January 15, 2023
Very well built, would be 5 stars but both levels fell out while unboxing. Gel superglued them back in and all good now. You get a lot of good accessories included with it. Spiked feet, hammock, carry bag, shoulder strap.

WOW!! STOUT AND QUALITY!!

by SBC Clydesdale, from LA, United States Written on September 3, 2022
I have other tripods that were just ok. This Athlon CF36 is stout, sturdy and an excellent platform for my heavy airguns. I had to wait a bit for the unit to come in and I am glad I did! I had seen video reviews of other tripods recommended by well know reviewers, but these other brands cost over $1,000. I believe that the Athlon CF36 can easily beat tripods that are much more expensive. The cost of the Athlon CF36 from Optics Planet is a real value for the money and should last me many years of service. The included carrying case, along with the extra tripod accessories that is included in the price really completes the package and each piece is a top notch quality component. I have several Athlon scopes and this tripod continues the excellent quality and value of this brand. If you need a tripod, this is the one. If you have other tripods, throw them away and get the Athlon CF36!!
Pros:
  • Sturdy, Folds Away Easily, Perfect Addition
Cons:
  • None for me
Best Used for:
  • Hunting and target long range

Love all the accessories

by aoudad, Verified Owner from NM, United States Written on June 5, 2022
It came in a little heavier than advertised with the ball head on (6.3lb) but it's a nice little setup. Great case, comes with the carry strap and hammock. The carry strap comes in handy for moving your setup while keeping hands free. The Molle legs are nice and let's be honest look cool.

Ballhead Friction Adjustment Does Absolutely Nothing

by wildcatgoal, Verified Owner from GA, United States Written on April 30, 2022
On the example I got, the ballhead friction adjustment does absolutely nothing with binoculars let alone a 27 lbs competition rifle. This adjustment should have the fidelity to keep the ball from moving when the mounted object is unsupported but still allow you adjust the mounted object. The friction adjustment is difficult and not smooth to twist and as far as I can tell - especially compared to another tripod ballhead I've used - does absolutely nothing. I hope Athlon replaces it!
Pros:
  • included accessories
Cons:
  • Friction Adjustment Does Nothing
