R11's Review of Athlon Optics Midas Gen II UHD 12x50mm Roof Prism Binoculars
I use these out west to view wildlife and for long range glassing, paired with a set of 8x42 around my neck for handheld quick glassing. I use them solely on a tripod or propped on a bag. I am one of those people who have issues using one eye with a spotting scope and I find that I can see/detect more animals with 2 eyes and a 12x50 binocular set than with a high powered spotter. I would never go below 50 on the objective with 12x and prefer the larger objectives as they allow me to shift around with minimal change to the view.
For me, the 8x on in my chest pouch and the 12x for stopping and glassing is the perfect combo. I don't like the 10x42 models that everyone seems to carry as I feel like they are harder to hand hold and not worth tripod mounting. People seem to gravitate toward 10x because they think they are better, but in my opinion I can hold steadier and pick out more detail with 8x holding. The 12x power supplements this perfectly.
The optics of this model are on par with my more expensive glass. Very clear. Way crisper than the more popular brand my friend has.
