Sean's Review of ATN Aries MK390 Paladin Night Vision Rifle Scope - 4x w/ IR Illuminator

These are very good quality Gen 1+ scopes. I see folks complaining about it not being able to see very far but you have to remember it's all about amplifying AVAILABLE light. If it is pitch black dark out or you are inside a room with no light guess what you will see through this scope... pitch black.

Couple this with a stronger IR transmitter and or visible light source and it is fine for the price. I put this on top of my 50 Beowulf for night hunting and it lights up great for as far away as I want to take the shot. If I hang an aftermarket IR emitter under the gun I can see pretty good up to about 100 yards but I don't want to shoot that far as the drop is crazy.

Also don't expect to have the same picture looking through this scope as you would a standard 4X scope. This has the looking through a paper towel roll tube thing going on as is correct with this Gen of optics. If you know what you are getting into it is a great answer for folks who want the capability but just don't want to spend a ton.

If you want to mount a night vis scope on a long shot gun, 308 and up I would go with Gen 2 or better. but if your looking for short range 223 stuff or inside 50 yards this is a good way to go.
