I had higher hopes for this compass. The index line is not properly centered, the sighting wire is crooked, the needle tracks slowly, and worst of all, the needle settles in the wrong position more often than not. Lensatic lens does not focus on the dial!
This is the first sighting compass I've bought, I couldn't figure out how to make it work, and I thought that I was not using it correctly. Two months later I went on a wilderness survival training weekend and showed one of the instructors my gear. I asked an Eagle Scout how to use it. He took it, opened it up with familiar ease, and started describing the steps to using it. He stopped, tried moving the lens around, and finally agreed it was broken -- the focal length of the fixed lens was not appropriate for this application.

I received this for christmas, it is a piece of you know what. The needle sticks, the dials are hard to turn, the alignment points arn't true and don't line up with the dial. Stay away from this product.

This compass is very well made, but I noticed that the dial will not away's point North right away. It takes up too 2 minutes on a flat surface to eventually get towards North. Sometimes it sticks and would move at all. I presume it is a bad one and I ran out of time to trade it in for another one.

It takes a while to line up all the marks,as they are small,but this is an excellent unit.I used it along side a friends GPS unit,and it turns out that the compass was faster oan more accurate than the GPS.There is alot to be said for "old school methods"!Thanks

Good compass for price
For the price you can't go wrong, wish the needle moved more freely tho. Looks and feels sturdy so I'm sure to get some good use out of it.

Cons: Needle sometimes sticks, a lite tap solves problem but does make me check and recheck reading...
