Most Helpful Positive Review Typical Burris quality
I have received the scope, mounted and sighted it and used it one other time. I chose this particular item because I wanted close up capabilities with a extra bit of reach for my AR. This scope is perfect. The 1.5 setting on the low end is good for quick acquisition close work. The six power gives i...

Most Helpful Negative Review Defective Products: 2 for 2
First one I ordered had the wrong reticle (box was correct). Replacement had defective adjustments (5-6 MoA elevation, 3-4 MoA windage) and the view had aberrations. Hand-delivered it to the Burris factory in Greeley, CO. Received a call 6-weeks later saying the scope is unrepairable and that a r...

Burris MTAC 1.5-6x42

by GK, Verified Owner from ME, United States Written on September 26, 2020
This is a great optic, all the quality of a LPVO with a large objective making low light shooting easier. Lighted reticle doesn’t wash out on low setting in the dark but is daylight visible on higher settings. I have used the BDC reticle our to 500yards. Only reason it gets a 4 is because I can’t give half stars, the magnification ring is a bit stiff to rotate but can be easily solved with a throw lever. Would recommend if you are looking for an low power optic for a hunting and “tactical” application.

Updated Review

by Spacegunner, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on August 5, 2019
My initial review (2017/02/04) of the scope was about the features of the unfired with scope. After shooting over 100 rounds, I & Burris determined that the scope was irreparably defective. Also, after looking through the scope for all those rounds, I began to notice that the sight picture was much worse than looking through the scope before I mounted it to my rifle. [Spacegunner - 2019/08]
Pros:
  • Nice Features
Cons:
  • poor quality
  • OP seems to omit Cons from Reviews

2 out of 2 Defective

by Spacegunner, from CO, United States Written on August 5, 2019
First one I ordered came in the correct box, but with wrong reticle (from Burris factory). Replacement would never hold zero with elevation drift 5-6 MoA; windage drift 3-4 MoA. Dropped-off at Burris factory in Greeley, CO for warranty claim. After 6 weeks, got a call stating the scope is unrepairable. Trying to decide to give the scope a third chance, and wait another 2 months for them to "be in stock". There is really no other Burris scope I like to replace this model. If Burris fails to come through on this warranty, I am done with them.

I bought this scope because I won a discount voucher; otherwise, I would have gone with the V- or NF-competitor's scopes.
Pros:
  • Nice Features
Cons:
  • POOR QUALITY; straight, MoA reticle would be better.
Best Used for:
  • Wasting ammunition.

Clear, Bright, Outstanding Reticle

by Rob, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on June 18, 2018
Was vacillating between this scope and a 1-6x24 from Vortex or Primary Arms. Chose this Burris for the larger objective and the reticle. Clarity is amazing and is bright, works well at max magnification in low light conditions. The illuminated reticle is a bit dim in bright conditions but is great when cloudy or at sunrise/sunset. Mounted this on an AR15 in 300 Blackout.
Pros:
  • bright
  • Clear
  • Retical is fantastic
Cons:
  • None

MTAC Riflescope

by bullelk, from WY, United States Written on March 21, 2018
I am very well pleased with this purchase. The clarity is superb, reticle is sharp and the illumination is also sharp and clear. I really like the 42mm lens. I did try the reticle for different ranges for bullet trajectory and it was right on with 62 grain ammo. You won't be disappointed with this scope.

Great on a three o 8

by Freddy, from Victoria, Australia Written on August 18, 2017
Threw this on a 308 ruger scout rifle a couple of years back and it does great. Put it on a conventional mount obviously. The illuminated BDC reticle helps get hits reliably out to 500m and the large CQB circle can be used very well for instinctive shooting at 1.5x with fleeting targets at close range, which is what I have used it for bush hunting here in Australia. Watch the illumination dial as it can be knocked on and drains the battery although the reticle is still visible in black. Tough too, as I use this on a proper bush gun that sits in the back of my Toyota bouncing around tracks and cross country then getting dragged through the undergrowth. It enhances the ability of the scout rifle at differing ranges and is a versatile sight at any range. With the conversion rate it is a pricey piece of kit but a pleasure to use.
Pros:
  • clarity,
  • Illuminated reticle, BDC, versatility and toughness
Cons:
  • Price. Also a little heavy but not greatly so.
Best Used for:
  • Hunting at various ranges.

It's a brute

by YonderSalmon, Verified Owner from GA, United States Written on July 28, 2017
When researching, it came down to this vs. the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6. Academy had the SE in stock and when I held, it felt cheap and the glass wasn't clear. So...I took a flyer and bought this one sight unseen. I'm glad I did. This thing is built like a tank with crystal clear glass. I am able to easily acquire a target at the 1.5 setting and consistently put rounds in the black with both eyes open. Mounted up, went to the range, and 6 shots later I was putting round after round on target.

The reticle (Ballistic AR) is great. I was worried that it would be too busy, but it's not at all. It's easy to focus on the dot and the ring and filter out everything else until you need it.

I have an A2 front site. There is (ever so) slight ghosting at 1.5 that my brain has already filtered out. It is not an annoyance at all.

Now, if we could get Burris to make lens caps and a throw lever for it, I'd be all set.

I haven't been able to get my adjustment knobs reset to zero after zeroing, but I will figure that out over the weekend. I would recommend this.
Pros:
  • Built like a tank
  • Easy to acquire target
  • Easy to adjust and install
  • Clear glass at all magnifications
Cons:
  • Heavy
  • Big
  • no lens covers

Burris-1-5-6x42mm-mtac-riflescope.

by flyboynv, from NV, United States Written on May 5, 2017
This is a very nice, well built rifle scope/optic that fits my bill exactly. Fits in a P.E.P.R mount and looks very good on the rifle. Have not used it yet, but it bore sighted very close out of the box. Illumination is awesome and works well.......Will continue this review after the initial trial/function test.

Great price for Burris glass

by Kalaco, from FL, United States Written on March 24, 2017
For a simple but affordable scope that has sharp clear glass this is a great buy. I would recommend you mount with the pepr mount to tie this scope to a tactical platform. This may be the most inexpensive scope I purchased, but delivers as expected.

Bright, Clear Scope for Mid-Range Shooting

by Spacegunner, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on February 4, 2017
I exchanged the CQB reticle for the Ballistic AR Reticle due to the types of shooting I do. The scope is very bright, the images very crisp & clear from edge to edge. I also like the quick-focus eyepiece, and tight power adjustment. The OFF-ON-OFF-ON reticle illumination allows the reticle to be illuminated or turned-off with only one click of the knob.

This is a robust, high-quality scope that I anticipate will provide a lifetime (or more) of shooting enjoyment from my AR's.

Planet Optics has great prices, and even greater Customer Service.
Pros:
  • Bright, Clear Image
  • Adjustable-Focus Eyepiece
  • OFF-ON-OFF-ON reticle illumination
  • Sturdy, Robust Construction
  • High Quality from a Respected Manufacturer
Cons:
  • None
