Most Helpful Negative Review So-so for the price.
AR mount instructions not readable. Two calls and two emails to Bushnell have not solved the problem. This lack of customer service from Bushnell surprises me. This is a well made product. First night vision device. Seems to need constant focusing and depth perception indoors takes a lot of getting...

Bushnell Equinox Z 4.5x40

by Creatineboy, from FL, United States Written on August 25, 2025
This night vision system has worked for me for 6 years with no problems. Mine has the 850 nm IR illuminator built in and to be honest,it's not really even always needed, this device is so good at using ambient light, like the right in my dark neighborhood. With the IR turned on,I can see point targets a 1/2 mile away. On,dogs and cats and even humans eyes glow white. It records or takes pics, and has a daytime function, but that's no fun. It has a picatinny rail where you can add your own IR illuminator to it, and I have a 7 Watt 850 NM illuminator light coming that I'm going to attach to it. I ordered this item from Walmart online and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. It's showing no sign of stopping or wearing out,and the focus function fixes blurriness instantly. Overall,it's a great Night vision device and I would recommend it to anyone. It runs on 4AA batteries, but I find high maH rechargeable Li or other batteries do best,or at least disposable lithium batteries will make it run longer. Using it sparingly I kept the same four AA batteries in it for 6 years!
Pros:
  • Clear image, bright IR illuminator,good focus,takes pics/records,has zoom,can see great distances
Cons:
  • Battery cap gets brittle and had to be fixed(glued together)
Best Used for:
  • Watching people at night, stalking predator animals like coyotes(never deer),scoping out your deer stand before you get to it,playing, monitoring your property

The images are clear, easy to use and great for the price! Perfect for hunting, boating, etc....The vision is not green colored but more like black and white but nevertheless it is very well lit up. I would definitely buy it again if given a choice.
Pros:
  • None
Cons:
  • cannot think of any

Equinox Z on my AR

by Guts, from AZ, United States Written on February 2, 2020
I mounted this unit behind a cheapo reddot. It works fairly well, but dimms the image somewhat. I then mounted an IR laser on the bottom rail. It took some thought to get points of impacts were I liked them. I removed the reddot and now just use the laser. Works great!

For those of you that say you can't get the unit to focus, READ THE DIRECTIONS!

There are a couple things that could be better. There is no way to adjust the very bright view screen. The control buttons are not the easiest to work in the dark.
Pros:
  • Price
  • Versatality
  • Included rail mount
Cons:
  • Brightness
  • control buttons
Best Used for:
  • Rifle Mount
  • Handheld

Better than i thought

by steve, from MI, United States Written on December 18, 2019
I am impressed with the visual effects on this Monocular. I dont like the bulk or the battery life though. The buttons are a little hard to figure out when using in the dark. and the eyepiece adjustment has no affect to me when rotating, the objective adjustment works good.

Good Entry Level IR Monocular

by MoDillos, from MO, United States Written on September 29, 2019
This IR Night Vision works well for what I want. I can easily spot Armadillos at over 100 yards away. Clarity is good enough to be sure of my target. My only complaint is that I wish it had a wider field of view. It's tough to scan an area less than 50 yards away. It does go through batteries rather quickly, but I purchased some lithium ion rechargeable batteries and they work great. Using the Bushnell IR monocular to locate my prey helps save on the batteries in my IR night vision scope on my rifle. Optics Planet's price was great.

Good product at a good price point! I am satisfied with performance. Would buy again . Was fairly open terrain when I used it and seemed to be able to identify things easily. Haven’t tried in the woods yet.

Can’t focus

by Disappointed, from TX, United States Written on December 25, 2018
For the price of this it feels like I got ripped off bad. Could never get them to focus. Probably to advanced for me but I read the manual four times. Will be sending them back ASAP. Waist of money don’t buy.

Great for what it is

by jack, Verified Owner from MT, United States Written on October 29, 2018
This is a great starter unit. It burns through batteries and is sometimes a little grainy but this thing does way more than you would ever expect a unit at this price point to do. The focus ring takes like 30 rotations to adjust but once you get there it looks pretty good. Like I said. Way better than I ever expected. 75 yards is very clear
Pros:
  • Built like a tank
Cons:
  • carrying case is too small
