Good block

Written on Apr 13, 2023

This is the 3rd brand of block I have used on AR work. My favorite so far, it is sturdier than the glass/nylon one I used in the past and the quick disconnect pins are a nice feature. I noticed no marks on my receiver which is better than the clamshell type I also tried in the past.

Great compensator, nice finish and tight fit on the threads

Written on Aug 13, 2021

I have installed a number of muzzle devices, including compensators, brakes if you know what they do, and 'breaks' if you can't spell. If you are looking for a good fitting compensator that directs the blast away from you and fits well then this is an excellent choice. It fit right, indexed easily and performed good.
I would compare this in performance to the flaming pig, though I haven't shot it at night like I have the Noveske. This seems to completely direct the flash/noise out the front and the fit & finish is excellent. This is slightly smaller in diameter than the pseudo-can devices that are meant to look like you have the end of a suppressor on there, but it is very nicely finished and shaped. I also like the way they have a washer that lets you clock the device instead of using shims, but I am curious if a few thousand rounds might loosen it over a few heat cycles. We will see.

Bottom line, if you are looking specifically for a compensator, and are on the fence with this one, buy it.

Very nice, lightweight and good brightness.

Written on Jan 25, 2021

If you are looking for a simple light with momentary or continuous on that is lightweight and affordable, you have found it. I put an O-light Valkyrie on my PMR-30 and it was bulky and made the balance off. Then I got this and it was a perfect fit, lightweight and balanced well.

At 200 lumens this isn't the brightest out there, and it uses the less common CR-2 batteries but overall I would expect this to be a $90-100 light. For around $70 you can buy this light and a big pack of the odd batteries and be in good shape for years of operation.

Also I really like the positive feel of the switches (ambidextrous), as compared to others like the O-light. They are more of a paddle that hangs back off the light, easy to operate bare handed or with gloves. The rubber pushbutton switches on the Valkyrie are less likely to get bumped on, but also seem like they would be very hard to operate with gloves on.

For perspective, I have 2 of the Valkyrie's sitting on my shelf and this light mounted on my PMR. I came here to buy another one of these and still am not sure what those other lights will go on. Maybe the front end of an AR or something, but I am already getting another CMR-209 even though I don't know what to put it on yet.

Good finish, excellent spare trigger at a solid price.

Spikes parts have been consistently good for over 9 years in my experience. I first became a customer of theirs in 2012 and they were backordered back then but still held up quality. It is good to see a company that has grown due to their offerings and stance on quality, fit & finish. The fact that this trigger set is a good price is just icing on the cake.

Good for large scopes on AR pattern rifles

Written on Nov 28, 2020

I bought these for clearance on my AR-15 rifle. I have a full flat-top AR-15, and wanted to mount my 50mm scope on there for a pig hunt since it was all I had sitting in the closet. The catalog from Warne & others will tell you that a 50mm bell will fit on the standard "high" rings and it will, with one big caveat. They only mount without any scope caps. Since my Riton X-3, 6-24x50mm scope had a nice set of slip on type scope caps, it was about 5mm too low with the "high" rings from Warne.
So I was left to chop up my front cover, not use it, or buy higher rings. That's where these X-high rings came in and saved the day. Once I got them (quickly) from OP, I mounted up my 50mm scope and the slip on front cover had enough clearance to be mounted over my handrail that has a full flat profile.

I know that scope is a bit overkill for this setup, just mounted it for a single hunt but was happy that it finally fit with these rings. If you have a handgaurd with the cut down profile over the barrel, you wouldn't need these mounts because the high would work fine.

Great for my AR pistols

Written on Oct 29, 2020

I like this stubby little grip for a handstop on my AR pistols. Not fully a grip so keeps things legal but you definitely get more purchase than on a simple finger stop. The FDE color is very close to MagPul furniture and also very close to MFT furniture, maybe only 1/2 a shade off and that is only sometimes, most of the time it's a solid match on both.

Fit & Finish are excellent, FDE matches Kel-Tec and MagPul pretty well

Written on Oct 02, 2020

These sights are very nice, sturdy and fit tight. I prefer this style of post and reticle vs. most other BUIS types for AR-15s.

I put these on my Kel-Tec RDB in FDE color, the Flat Dark Earth color of these sights was very close. I also put my MagPul Magazine in and that matched very well. A Pro-Mag 40 round magazine in FDE also matched all of these pretty well.

I also have a BCM KAG and Lancer Hybrid mags in FDE for this setup. Both the Lancer Mags and KAG are a few shades lighter than the FDE of everything else.

Excellent fit on my VX-5HD, could flip farther.

Written on Sep 23, 2020

This is just what I needed to keep the dust out here in the Arizona desert, and it fit my VX5HD scope perfectly. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that it doesn't flip flat onto the scope. Where you see it stopped in the stock photo is where it actually stops and cannot flip further, I wish it could lay fully flat onto the scope but I guess that isn't a huge deal, I am just worried about hitting it on something and bending/breaking it since it stops up in the air like that.

Fits tight, easy to install

Written on Sep 13, 2020

The cheaper grips in this style seem to fit loosely or way too tight. I can tell this has the correct tolerances because it fits tightly without forcing anything. This is what I expect from MagPul, thanks!

Tight fit but worked fine

Written on Aug 22, 2020

These fit very tight and are a little hard to slide on but once they are set you don't have to worry about it again. I would buy again if I had a cheap AR that I was keeping as a truck gun or something, they aren't nearly as nice as the made in USA versions, but have their place when you want a backup sight on a cheap beater of an AR.
