Trijicon SRO

Written on Mar 18, 2025

I carried one of these on a daily basis for a few years. I purchased this one for a new pistol. After running thousands of rounds through a G17 with an SRO mounted with a C&H plate I've had no problems. I prefer this optic because the window is large enough to help me find the dot when I'm moving as fast as I can, and there is minimal housing obscuring my view. I use blue thread locker on the screws, and after mounting the optic I don't assemble the slide to the gun for a week to let the Loctite cure. I've mounted several optics this way and none have shaken loose.

Leupold VX-Freedom Scout

Written on Aug 17, 2024

The glass is clear, and the crosshairs work well enough. I bought this optic for the sole purpose of trying to get good groups out of a Springfield M1A Scout, with the optic mounted on the factory rails forward of the ejection port. From there I had to mount the scope as far back as possible. The scope covers most of the ejection port, but that has not affected reliability at all, and the brass does not seem to be hitting the scope. At 5'8" my neck is not long enough to lean into the scope far enough to use the 4x setting. At best I can use the 2x setting. There just isn't enough eye relief to run this on the M1A Scout.

TLR 1 HL Flashlight

I already have a few of these, each has been mounted on a pistol with over 20,000 rounds through them. The switch is very easy to operate, especially with gloves. I've never had one fail. I only give it 4 stars because I do think the SureFire light lasts longer before going through the batteries.

6.8 AR magazine

Written on Jul 05, 2024

I've used several of these magazines in my 6.8 SPC AR. They have always functioned reliably, seat with no issues and drop free. They are heavier than aluminum magazines, but not as heavy as some of the other steel magazines I've tried.

9mm AR magazine

I use these in a Springfield 9mm AR 15. I have not had any issues with them feeding, and they go in and out of the magazine well with no issues.

RMR HD 3.5 MOA

Written on May 28, 2024

The lens is much bigger than that of an RMR, comparable to the SRO. The lens is clearer with less blue tint. The face of the optic sits about 1/4" further forward than the RMR, so it doesn't fit well into most of my RMR holsters. It will not fit into a Safariland level 2 retention holster made for an RMR. It's also more difficult to clean the extractor on the pistol now since the optic is hanging over the breach face. The 3.5 MOA dot is fine for a pistol, but the RMR had better options on the brightness of the dot. I can't find a setting that is just right. After shooting RMR's, SRO's, Leupold Delta Points and Vortex optics, I've always been able to get the dot to just the right intensity. Not with the RMR HD; I have to settle on a bit too bright or a bit too dim.
The larger window does make getting on target fast easier. And the battery compartment on top is a much better way to go. For those two reasons alone, I prefer the RMR HD over the old RMR.
