Great Trigger

Written on Apr 22, 2018

Replaced the trigger on my Remington 700 5r in 308 Win with this Timney trigger. What a difference! Came preset to 1.5 lbs. and is crisp with no creep or overtravel. The rifle was a shooter before, but even better now. No gunsmithing required... easy install... check you tube.

Alpen Products Perform

I picked these binos up on special at less than $200 based on a higher end pair of Alpen binos I have had for several years; as well as, a 20-60x80 spotting scope that are second to none. Where Alpen may not have the name recognition of some of the other manufacturers, their glass is clear and sharp. I bought this Shasta model as a back up to my other Alpen's and am thoroughly impressed with them. Field of view is clear edge to edge. At 10x, they have good light gathering capability and are very effective in picking up detail in critical low light conditions. If you're looking for a mid-range cost pair of binos, you will be very impressed with with these Alpen Shasta 10x42's. For the cost, they will be hard to beat!

First Crossfire

Written on Apr 23, 2016

I own several Vortex Viper series scopes and love them. I decided to try this Crossfire series to put on a Savage Lady Hunter 243 Win I picked up for the grandsons and ladies. I've only had it to the range for one session, but am impressed for the price. The glass is Vortex clear with only very slight distortion at peripheral edge. Crosshairs are crisp and a nice size... not quite covering a 3/8" dot at 100 yds. The mil dots are dead on. The power adjustment ring is stiff and I hope it will loosen a bit with use. The parallax adjustment objective bell is also dead on at 100 yds. I haven't gone out further than that yet. Once I get a load worked up for the rifle, I'll run it through a box test, but for what little I've adjusted the scope it appears to be tracking accurately. The E / W adjustments are positive, but a bit soft and not very audible but for this set up and intended use, I anticipate dialing it in at 100 yds. and not moving it. For my first venture in the Vortex "lower end", I am very satisfied. For the $$$, quality, customer service and outstanding warranty, Vortex optics cannot be beat.

Nice rings for the price.

I am using these with a 44mm obj. scope and the low rings on a weaver base is perfect on the Savage Lady Hunter... sitting 3/16" above the barrel. I did have an issue of the magnification adjustment ring contacting the scope rail, but just filed the rail at the contact point to provide clearance. I have a couple of these ring sets on rifles of various calibers from 22-250 to 300 WSM. The 6 screws take a little longer to install, but once on I've never had any issues... and the width has good purchase on the scope tube. And they come with 2 extra screws. The only negative is the bottom rods that secure to the picatinney base are not fixed in the ring base making initial installation a bit tedious ( better done with the rifle upside down). Hard to beat these for the price.

Nice for the price

Lightweight aluminum. Perfect fit on my Savage rifle. Overall machining is not 5-star but the picatinney mounts fit very tight and secure. This one went on a 243 Win. I'd probably upgrade to a heavier rail for a LA or magnum caliber. So far I've had no negative issues at all.
