Only Works With FM Uppers

Written on Mar 27, 2025

This looks like a solid piece of kit. Ordered it for my BRN 180 Upper. The first strike against this is it comes with no installation instructions. I had to peruse FM’s Website and YouTube to find them. When I figured that out I realized this was not going to work with the BRN 180 upper. It sticks too far out of the lower to mate with the BRN 180 upper. I emailed FM Products (they don’t list a phone number) about this and they confirmed it is only compatible with their uppers. Would it kill them to mention that in their product description? It would have saved me the headache of figuring this out for myself and having to return it.

Absolute Junk

Written on Aug 20, 2022

Put this on my 556 AK. First problem was the sling loop interfered with my optic’s side rail mount. Since I wasn’t using the sling loop anyways I just went ahead and cut it off. I used a reasonable amount of blue loctite on the screws, let it cure overnight and hit the range the next day. Shot about 100 rounds and noticed how “rattley” my M4 stock was. On closer inspection I saw the TDI tube had shaken loose. No biggy I thought. This time I saturated the screw threads with loctite, screwed them in nice and tight, and let it cure for 48 hours. Went back to the range and put another 80 rounds through it. After getting home I looked at the TDI tube and noticed the roll pin that holds the receiver plate onto the tube had almost worked itself completely out. I checked the screws and they were loose again. Took the screws out and saw the threads in the tube were starting to strip. Bottom line this is made from 6061 aluminum and the threads can’t handle the repeated stress from recoil. TDI needs to either make this from 7075 aluminum or use steel inserts for the threads. Since I modified this it looks like I’m out 60 bucks. Do yourself a favor and look at something else.

Ordered Two But One Defective

Written on Jul 25, 2021

Ordered two of these. Had to return one because the manufacturer (Kensight) didn’t bother milling out the middle of the sight where the fiber optic rod goes. I called Kensight and spoke to one of their customer service reps named “Shane” who, after I explained the issue and emailed him a photo of the incomplete sight, said he would “make things right.” Well two days went by and crickets... tried calling back but voice mail only. So I guess don’t expect any customer service from Kensight. Now I have to go through the RMA process with Optics Planet. I ended up having to pay for another sight up front because they only had one left in stock and if I waited for an exchange it would be back ordered.

As far as the one I kept. It appears well made and was relatively easy to install. You do need an AK front sight tool. Keep in mind you must have the sight post centered to adjust elevation. When sighting these in it easiest to adjust elevation first then adjust your windage. Sight it in before installing the fiber optic. It gives you a nice wide front post with a relatively fat fiber optic dot. Perfect for my 60 year old eyes! Great sight but one star off for Kensight’s poor customer service.

Very Disappointing

Written on Feb 21, 2021

I didn’t expect these $100 binoculars to perform like a $3,000 pair. But I DID expect them to perform better than my $25 cheapos I bought 20 years ago! I got these 12X50’s to replace my old 8X25 auto focus binoculars I use for work (law enforcement). I’m now working in a rural area and wanted a little more magnification. As soon as I tried these I noticed everything seemed slightly out of focus, no matter the distance. Street signs, address numbers, license plates etc. that I could clearly read with my old cheapos, were barely discernible with these new binoculars. Not only that; even though these new ones have objective lenses twice the size as my old ones (50 mm vs 25 mm), my old ones have a brighter image and a larger field of view! I have uncorrected 20/20 vision so I know that’s not the issue. Very disappointing because I have had good experiences with other Bushnell products I have owned. Now I have to go to the trouble of returning these.

Much Better

This greatly improves the ergonomics of using the brace when shouldering it, providing a more enjoyable shooting experience. When using the brace for one handed shooting the increased length provides better leverage. It is very easy to install. Well worth the cost.
