In My Own Words:
Owner/operator of Meisinger Gunsmith & Lathe Co.
Retired USMC
My brother gave me a Ruger American in .308 for hunting. When I put it on the range, I could not keep inside 6" at the 50yd line. Yea, that bad. Being a certified Gunsmith, I evaluated all surfaces, floating barrel, concentricity, flushness...all the blueprint potential adjustments that don't typically come from the big manufacturers anymore. While I did make some adjustments, I only bettered my shooting to about a 4" diameter (still at 50yds). My next step was to throw away the synthetic stock and make one from walnut. After having considered the time (which I am most always short on, cause I am fixing customers guns), I decided to go with an alum chassis. The ROCS has a very good price point and thought I would experiment. Long story short... I am now at the 100yd mark and within 1.25". I realize I am not there yet, but I am truly pleased by the difference this chassis made. At this point, I will start comparing ammo loads. Well worth the price, even if it does not come with easy adjustments to LOP. Now, while I planned on using the gun for hunting, I will add that the chassis makes the rifle pretty long (sorry, I don't have the dimensions), some of you may not like that...I don't feel that is ideal either. Just be aware. Living/hunting in PA, my lengthy shots "may" reach 350yds. So, I will likely reduce the barrel length and recrown. Bottom line...good buy at a good price.
Bought this for a Ruger American .308 which could not put two holes on paper inside a 4" diameter at 50yds. As a school educated Gunsmith and shop owner, I have evaluated enough guns to know there is more to accuracy than just one thing - its often an number of small adjustments that slowly bring groupings together, and the shooter is a large part of that.
Shooting this gun allowed me to prioritize the number of things to be adjusted/tweaked. Changing out the stock was first. Ruger American is a good low end rifle, and the lowest end part of that rifle is the stock. Applying the TRYBE R.O.C.S. was a leap of faith since I had not experienced this brand previously. This Chassis does not come with simplified bells and whistles like the high end ones like easy adjustable cheek riser or LOP, but with a price point in the mid $300 area, and a solid aluminum body, I knew what I was getting and was willing to give it a try. I intentionally did not adjust anything else on the firearm so I could determine the extent of improvement (or not) from the Chassis alone. The result is 1-1 3/4" groups at 100yds. With that much improvement, I have ruled out adjusting/tweaking a couple other things, but still have 1, maybe 2 things to do to the firearm that I feel may improve things a bit more. However, I am pleasantly impressed with the accuracy improvement. This Chassis added some weight to the firearm overall, since the original synthetic stock was featherlight. Also, with all t
