Best way to free-float a FSB upper

Written on Aug 27, 2023

I’ve purchased close to 10 Midwest Industries handguards and they have all been fantastic. This one is no exception. This is an excellent option to free-float and add modularity to a FSB carbine upper. Installation is a bit tricky without taking off the FSB, but it’s possible with a dremel, a pair of good needle nose pliers and a good amount of patience.

Great brake, terrible shim kit

Written on May 25, 2023

The brake itself is fine. The quality and finish are fantastic. I'm taking away one star because the shim kit is completely useless. Because this is a suppressor mount brake, it needs to be shimmed instead of using a crush washer, but the shims that come with the brake only come with 3 different size shims for which the smallest adjustable angle is 30 degrees. So basically if your barrel threading isn't timed exactly correctly, you can't get the brake timed correctly (my barrel threading made it so my options were either 5-10 degrees too far past the correct timing or 20-25 degrees short of the correct timing). Additionally, even if you are able to get the shims to time the brake correctly, the outside diameter of the shims is so much wider than the brake that you can't get an armorer's wrench onto the brake to give it the last little bit of torque needed because the shelf on the brake for the armorer's wrench is so short.

Now I am left to buy a different shim kit before I can correctly install the brake. More money and more time waiting. I have never had this issue with my Lantac Keymo mount brakes.

Good output, but major design flaw

Written on Jun 03, 2018

This light was too good to be true. Upon receiving the light, I quickly discovered a major design flaw. Every time the light is turned on (whether you use the button or the pressure pad), it turns on in the next mode. For instance, if you turn the light on in "high" and then turn it off, the next time you turn it on it will be in "low" and the next time in "strobe". If you plan on using this for home defense or other tactical uses, this practically makes this light useless and potentially even dangerously so. The light output is good, and if the light only had one "high" mode, I would have definitely given 5 stars.

Unfortunately not what I had hoped

Written on Jun 03, 2018

I don't know if I got a bad item, but this red dot was not bright enough to be seen even indoors with the lights on. I purchased for a 22 rifle (for plinking, so I didn't want to invest much in this sight). I am returning the item to look for something else.

Seems to hold up well

Written on Jun 03, 2018

Although I've only been out with this once, it held up great. The packaging says to only shoot soft-point ammo, but I regularly shoot FMJ. It handled .22lr, 9mm, .40cal and a few shots of .223 without any issue. Obviously the stickers didn't last, but I'll just keep a can of spray paint around to revive the color and be able to see points of impact.
