Worthless Drill Bit

Written on Feb 28, 2021

As other reviews have mentioned the drill bit included with this jig is completely useless. Can't even do more than make a shiny little dot on my Ballistic Advantage nitrided barrel. I can see a shiny mark where the drill bit touched but when I run my fingernail over it I can barely feel a dimple. The drill bit is softer than barrel steel and is incapable of drilling into it.

No, I was not spinning the bit backwards.

Very light

Written on Mar 09, 2020

I purchased this and the V Seven Weapon systems rail. The V Seven comes in at 0.54 oz and the Arisaka is 0.47 oz according to my scale. The Arisaka is also cheaper. This is the ligbtest rail I have been able to find without resorting to polymer. It is very low profile so there might be the possibility of a rail accessory being to fat to fit in this rail. But everything that I own works. It is about 2mm lower profile than a normal rail.

Not the lightest

Written on Mar 09, 2020

According to my scale this weighs 0.54 oz. Arisaka Defense low profile rail weighs 0.47 oz and is cheaper. This isn't as light as I had hoped. The Arisaka rail I already had installed was lighter. Machining is high quality, the Arisaka rail is simply lighter.

Super light, but questionable quality and reliability

Written on Feb 17, 2020

This is not for a gun that you trust your life with. This is only for a an ultralight competition gun. This is a cast metal part. It is super light as advertised. The finish is some sort of painted on coating, it is not anodized (I am not sure magnesium can be anodized). The coating had several runs inside the upper which dried into thick drops that stood up so tall it inhibited the bolt carrier from being able to cycle. I had to sand the drops down in order to allow enough clearance to let the BCG cycle. And it still sounded rough, like there was a handful of sand in there even with lubrication. This is not for a gun that you trust your life with. This is only for a an ultralight competition gun.

Updated review 1 year later

I initially gave this trigger a 5 star review. But after about 2,500 rounds this trigger gave me lots of problems. I got several light primer strikes with Federal XM193 ammo and PPU M193. I found this annoying but kept using the trigger. I then started getting hammer follow where the trigger would not lock back but there would be a fresh round chambered. Again this was annoying but I kept using it. Then I started getting fully automatic 2 round burst where the hammer follow would actually fire the next round. And then after the 2 round burst the hammer would not be locked back and there would be a fresh round in the chamber. The trigger was not dirty. These incidents happened over several range sessions and I cleaned it very thoroughly after each session. I have since removed the trigger and gone with another brand. I cannot trust this trigger. This is a shame because I really liked it and gave it 5 stars at first. Between the light primer strikes and failing to lock back trying to go full auto I cannot recommend this product. It is unreliable and even dangerous.

Zero take up

Written on Oct 16, 2018

In case anybody was wondering how this trigger feels, it has zero take up. It doesn't budge even a fraction of an inch until it breaks. Totally firm with no wiggle or slop and no travel before the break. I don't have a scale but I would estimate the trigger pull is close to the advertised ~4 to 5 lbs. Reset is a nice short tactile click. Safety is also nice and smooth with a nice click into both positions but also not too hard to move.

Nice quick release

Written on Oct 16, 2018

High quality quick release that I am not afraid of accidentally releasing. However, this is difficult to operate on a QD slot on an AR-15 endplate. Both buttons must be depressed to release this swivel and it is very difficult to press one of the buttons when mounted to an AR-15 endplate. The buffer tube is very close to the 2nd button. If you had gloves on it would be near impossible. I still give it 5 stars. Just beware if you are planning on sticking this on an AR-15 endplate it will be tricky to remove. Works great in every other QD slot I have on my guns.

Soft Steel

Written on Oct 16, 2018

The center tooth doesn't engage the castle nut. Only the left first and last teeth on the wrench make contact with the nut. The teeth on the wrench rounded off while tightening an ALUMINUM ultralight castle nut from V Seven. When a steel tool gives way before an ultralight aluminum nut you know it is a cheap piece of junk. When it happened I thought I had stripped my Aluminum nut. But then I look at the nut and the wrench and see the nut was fine, the wrench deformed. Don't waste your time and just buy a better AR-15 tool from a brand that has a reputation.
