good product, not necessarily an improvement over previous model
Written on Apr 01, 2015
Tested the previous RX-1000i model at a big box retailer, but since it wasn't available in camo I order the newer model.
Although the previous model had a setting simultaneously showing actual distance and horizontal distance (very functional and valuable in realistic situations), the newer model doesn't have this setting. The numerous rifle settings contain an option to briefly show the actual distance and then lock in the vertical distance (fail to see the value of this), otherwise it's either-or to show either the actual distance or the horizontal distance but not both and not easily.
In my initial testing of reporting long distances, I cannot get the unit to report a distance beyond ~950 yards. I don't currently need this capability, but this newer model is more expensive partly because of the distance improvement from 1000 yards to 1200 yards. If you need this capability I recommend researching carefully before purchasing this unit.
My primary need at this time is for archery, where the simultaneous actual/horizontal distances would have been helpful. Instead I've been using this unit set to report horizontal distance, and after extended use I do find the unit to be accurate and repeatable. Combined with the size/weight and convenient lanyard and case, I do believe this unit is a good option for bow hunters. If you can find the RX-1000i for less (and don't mind black if that's all you can find), I believe that is a better option than paying significant'y more for the

well made, not great for lens caps or turrets

Bought for a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50. While this product does the job of protecting the scope, and I specifically bought this size to best fit my scope, it does not work at all with lens caps and barely stretches around the multiple turrets (which are common for modern scopes). The side flaps are also not very attractive just laying there, and would be better if designed to wrap securely under the scope body (maybe one-piece for two-point mounts and two-piece for one-point mounts. I'll likely just use this in the safe to protect while taking other guns in/out, but for travel or use in the field I don't see this product helping me any.

Lightweight, easy install, great color, very configurable.

After having trouble finding an OD Green handguard that reasonably matched other OD Green furniture, this product finally hit the mark. Color matches Magpul ODG very well, installs easily, is fairly light considering the 15" length, and priced well for being keymod capable.
The only area that I think UTG could improve on the design is the small alignment tabs that go outside the upper to (I guess) help reduce rotation. The problem with this concept is that once installed a standard upper vice block will no longer properly hold the completed upper, which is critical since the last piece is always the muzzle break or flash hider. Installing those last without a vice isn't a deal breaker, but if you use a form of "lock tight" then future removal may be quite challenging.
Overall very pleased with the product, but that doesn't stop me from offering suggestions for improvement.

works perfectly

Great price, best I could find online. Shipped and received quickly. Lightweight and installs very easily. The color matches other ODG furniture well, Magpul and other brands. The first range test with matching front sight was zeroed at 50 yards out of the box. NOTE - this was installed on 45 degree angled mounts, so out of the box accuracy was a pleasant surprise. Couldn't have been better overall experience.
